I own nothing of House M.D except this story line, strange what we dream eh? Thought it would be a good start to a story…. I dunno…

A Sad Tale

"House!"

Uh oh. He knew he was in trouble. He knew he was in trouble by the tone of her voice, the glare in her eyes, and the way she walked purposefully towards him. The only thing he didn't know was why he was in trouble.

"Dr. Cuddy, to what do I owe the pleasure of your voice in my ear this early in the morning?" House had just walked in. He had completed his clinic hours yesterday….Well, someone had completed his hours for him, but it was close enough. So he knew it wasn't that reason.

"I've had a complaint from the children's ward about your immunologist. What the hell is she doing down there House? She doesn't belong down there, and as far as I know, you don't have a patient, so will you just….." House cut her off with a hand to her mouth.

"Will you shut up already? I have no idea why she is down there. I shall go and retrieve my stray little duckling and put her back in the pond with the others, ok?"

Cuddy didn't answer, House's hand was still covering her mouth, and so she just nodded and turned to walk away. Then remembered something else.

"Oh, and the nurses up there said she was crying. Whatever you have done….WHATEVER" She tried again as House was about to interrupt, effectively stopping him, "you have done, fix it. I don't like you making the nurses cry, even worse when it's one of your own staff members!" And with that, she turned and walked back into her office.

House stood for a few minutes in complete shock. So Cameron was upset about something, nothing unusual there. She was always the most emotional one. But to be in the children's wing, now that he found interesting. So he ignored the fact that Cuddy had assumed it was his fault in order to satisfy his own curiosity. Glaring at the nurse on the Clinic desk he headed towards the lifts, and then on up to the Children's wing to go retrieve his immunologist.

Allison Cameron, immunologist and duckling of House's, was sitting in the children's wing. It had seemed like the logical place to go. They seldom had children to treat as patients, and even when they did, they had their own rooms to put them. Add to that, the doctors and nurses down here hardly knew her. Knew her by name only. Yes the children's wing had been a good idea. Until she saw House standing outside of the room she was in, making gestures at her to join him in the hall.

Wiping her eyes, she stood, said goodbye to the little girl she had been talking to about dolls, and joined him.

"Why are you down here?" Cameron just rolled her eyes. Never one to beat about the bush. Now she just had to think of a believable lie.

" Um…They asked me to bring some blood reports down here." No way did he believe her.

"Yes….Blood work. How upsetting. You often cry over blood?"

"Wasn't crying."

"Was. Your lips say no, your eyes say yes. So the question is…Why is my baby duckling crying?"

"House, just leave it, ok? I'm gonna go down to the diagnostics room, get the file for any new patient we have, and then go and do a patient history. Failing that, I'll be up in immunology helping out." And with that she walked away, leaving a confused and startled House standing there. She has never spoken to me like that before.

Shrugging, he walked toward the clinic. One of the best places to hide is right under Cuddy's nose. She always looked for him to go to the clinic, so this time he would already be there. He needed to think about the puzzle that was a certain brown haired woman.

I know it's a little short. If you think I should continue with it, please feel free to say. It's a little rocky I know, but this is just a base line.
