Ciel?.."
The blonde woman sat down on the bed, a worn down book on her lap. On the cover, was a hastily written note, in what she recognised as her fiancée's neat scrawl.
'Dear Lizzie, from Ciel'
Tears fell from Elizabeth's eyes, making the dark cover damp with the salty water.
The Earl of Phantomhive went missing years prior, the only thing left being a note saying "Ciel Phantomhive, died age 13". The last the Midford saw of him was when she visited his manor and he offered her a dance, which she gladly accepted.
She remembered commenting on his attire, the strangeness of his family ring missing, which, if she was correct, was extremely special to him. The bluenette nearly slapped her when she broke it during a tantrum all those years ago! He never went out without it.
Yet, it was found on his dressing side table when investigated after no sign of him. The servants searched everywhere, but there was no sign of him, nor his butler, Sebastian Michaelis.
The blonde averted her eyes to the ceiling, feeling tears fall down her cheeks.
Apparently, Ciel had left with Sebastian, leaving no indication of where they were going. A few hours later, Elizabeth found the plaque on her table. Not wanting to believe it, her father sent out a party to try and find the Phantomhive.
They were unsuccessful.
Biting her lip, she lifted a shaky hand and opened the book, finding that it was entirely handwritten. On the first page, was a short letter.
" Dear Lizzie,
By the time you read this, I shall be dead. Don't be upset, this is what I want.
You see, Sebastian is a demon that I am, or was, contracted to. I know, it sounds childish and unbelievable. I would think the same thing. But, it is all true. Underneath my eye patch, is the symbol of our contract.
When the contract is complete, the demon eats the masters soul. My contract was to find the people who killed my parents and tarnished the Phantomhive name, and make them feel the same pain and humiliation I felt. If you are reading this, I have succeeded, and Sebastian has eaten my soul.
Please, feel free to hate me. I'm sorry.
Love, Ciel"
A muffled scream behind her arm, more tears welling up in her eyes.
"I-It was.. S-Sebastian?..." The woman held the book close to her chest, water falling down her cheek and onto her lap. Sebastian, the man who she had met when she was mearly eleven years old. The man who had saved Ciel, and Elizabeth trusted with her life. He had betrayed her.
Demons were real, contracts with them costed your soul. What else was real? Demons were just stories to make you behave though. That was a lie apparently.
Her hands clenched as she stood up, placing the book on the bed. The lady opened her wardrobe and pulled out a large trunk, placing it on the floor. Blowing the dust from the top, she opened it and let out a distraught cry. Inside, was a nutcracker, from when they were younger.
She closed her eyes and took it out, before reaching back inside and pulling out a sword.
"You will pay Sebastian Michaelis... "
