On an ordinary day, a view like this would have been nice. Looking over the cars, people, and buildings on a street in Vegas. But this day wasn't anywhere close to a ordinary day. Those cars were either battered or on fire. Those people were either fighting for their lives or the walking dead. Those buildings were blood splattered and deserted.
Chase MacAvoy sat on his perch, a small replica of the Eiffel Tower, with his rifle in hand. With precise aim he shot the head off a zombie some distance away. Being the stupid lumps they were, they didn't come after him. They were busy with everyone else.
It was hard for him to watch what was happening below. In the real world he was a sheriff, he helped others. Chase knew that this way he would be safer and that he could help at the same time.
He straightened his cow boy hat to shade his eyes from the sun and caught a glimpse of a zombie ambling towards K-Mart's unsuspecting back. Chase deftly blew it's brains out onto the brick wall behind it. He wasn't going to let his little K-Mart get hurt now was he? The fourteen year old spun around in reaction to the gun shot and looked around for the shooter. She waved when she spotted him and Chase gave her a two fingered salute and mouthed for her to be careful. She nodded.
Turning his attention else where he noticed a few zombies going after the kids. Like hell they would. Chase aimed and fired four consecutive shots and four zombies went down.
His time of relaxation ended soon after when a woman near hysterics ran towards him, a group of zombies chasing her. Chase fixated his rifle on the zombies and began firing. The woman climbed towards him, bringing them nearer.
"Climb!" He shouted towards her and extended a gloved hand. "Give me your hand!" Chase assisted her higher and shot down the zombie closest to her. He didn't notice the one behind him until it was too late. The pain was worse than anything he had ever felt in his entire 35 years of life. But he gritted his teeth and took it like the man he was.
Chase elbowed the horror movie reject in the ribs but it didn't even flinch. Now matter how much he struggled, it kept it's jaws clamped on his neck.
"Run!" he ushered to the woman still climbing. "Go! Go! Run!"
Now he was overwhelmed by zombies. The ones going after the woman were now after him. And they succeeded. His whole body felt as though it were a bon fire.
"Let's go." He growled to the mass gnawing at his flesh. Without hesitation, he hurled himself off the ledge he was sitting on dragging all of his offenders with him.
As he fell, he noticed where his precious hat went. It hardly ever left his head and with the string of events he hadn't notice it had fallen. When Chase was first bitten the zombie had knocked it off. Now it covered the ugly face of one of the zombies he had killed.
His last thought was that this was a very sad way to die in a zombie apocalypse.
