My Past, Present, and Future.
Riza stared deeply into his eyes, those lovely black eyes. Those were the eyes she desperately read whenever they were stuck in a situation and needed to know what their next move was. Those were the eyes that screamed in agony when she thought she was going to die on the Promised Day, those were the same eyes that used to be clouded from blindness and yet filled with determination to still lead his country to greatness, the eyes who looked at her's back.. bu this time with sorrow and confusion.
"Sir..." She whispered, she can't do this. She can't just stand there and not accept the chance he was giving her. This was the only chance for them to be vulnerable and say whatever they wanted to each other. She felt her body trying to fight the urge to wrap herself around him and never let go, but nothing came out her mouth. For the first time in her life, she did not know what to say to Roy Mustang.
Roy took her hand gently in his, while stroking her fingers lighting with his fingertips.
"I need to know, do you think we could have a chance.. to be together?" He asked quietly, still staring lovingly yet deeply into her hazel eyes,"If things what they weren't now, don't you think we deserve a chance at happiness?"
She swallowed the hard lump in her throat. No, this IS wrong.
"I- WE can't do this, sir..."
"God damn it, for once in your life drop the 'Sir'. We've known each other well enough to know I am more than just your superior!" Roy exclaimed.
"Roy, whatever this is, it can't happen. You have goals and I need to be by your side to make sure it happens. No matter what, our future must come first before this-"
Roy grabbed her other hand, taking it to his chest as he smiled at her. His smile melted her insides, for years.
"But you are part of my future; you are my past, present and will be my future."
Tears were brimming heavily in her eyelids and it took every inch of her to not let them show, but for fuck sake she was not the best at controlling her feelings- especially when it came to him. Roy quickly picked his hand up to wipe the tear that fell on her cheek, which slightly lingered for a moment as he waited for her to react.
"I don't need displays of affection, strolls around the park, dinners, any of that.." as he went on, Roy's hands freed her hands and cupped her face, "as long as I am leading this country with you by my side, then I could die a happy man."
Her eyes scrunched in confusion, "But wasn't that the part of the plan in the first place?" when she asked this, Roy chuckled.
"When I mean by my side, I mean together.. by my side. More than just a subordinate," he said. He stared at her again this time, with more sternness and softness mixed in.
"A subordinate, a best friend, a partner, and a lover.. So what do you say?"
Another tear escaped her eye, and then a cascade of them followed as she pressed her body to his to close the gap between them. How could she say no to him? This was the man who has risked his life for her, the one who she would follow into Hell with, the one who has seen and marked her back to free her of her father's sins, the one who she loved with all her heart and forever will love him.
She smiled at him, tears flowing endlessly down her face, "You're a fool, Roy Mustang."
Words weren't needed to answer the question he had asked her, because that was their relationship in a nutshell. Roy pressed his lips against her lips and kissed her with all he had in himself.
