Hi guys! This is my first fanfic. I usually am the avid reader of fanfics, but this time I decided to try my hand at writing them. This one shot is prompted off the 3x14 promo pics. I hope you'll like it! I would love any feedback on it, so please review! Thank you!

She wondered why he saved her even though he wanted her dead. Was he that sadistic to get Tyler to bite her and then save her to kill her off at another time? Staring at the bracelet he gave her, she thought what had prompted her to wear it to the Founders Ball.

"Could I have this dance, darling?"

Startled out of her musing, she looked up to see the feared hybrid standing in front of her with his hand outstretched.

"Ah-umm.." looking around her, she realised that what better way to find answers to her questions than to ask the source of it himself. "Sure." Clasping his hand, she let him lead her to the dance floor.

"I see that you have not let the previous night's incident bring out down." He said as he twirled her round on the dance floor.

Glaring at him, she asked "Why did you save me?"

"No 'Thank you Klaus for saving my dear life and giving me another chance at enjoying eternity'.? This is what's wrong with the generation today, no appreciation." he mocked her softly.

"You never do anything without an ulterior motive Klaus. You get Tyler to bite me and then you save me. What changed your mind?"

"Maybe I had a change of heart. After all no one should die on their birthday or maybe I just didn't want to piss a certain vampire off that had my family with him."

Ah yes! It was always about someone else being more important than her. Having no more desire to talk to him, she just stared resolutely ahead in silence waiting for the dance to end. She tried to ignore the way they move in sync to the music or the feel of him as he pulls her towards him to avoid another couple bumping into them.

As the dance ended, Klaus walked her to the edge of the dance floor. She turned away to get to her friends that were no doubt worried about why she was dancing with him when she heard him utter one last comment.

"It was a pleasure Caroline. You dance exquisitely. And I do mean it when I said there is genuine beauty to look forward to in the world. After all I was dancing with one just now." With that last word, he disappeared into the crowd.
