A/N Another one-shot. This story is dedicated to all the people in the military who aren't home for the holidays!

Disney Owns Gravity Falls

It was a dark morning, not uncommon to see in winter. A 21-year-old Mabel sat in her chair in the Mystery Shack's kitchen table. It was quiet… too quiet.

The date was December 24th, Christmas Eve. Today most people would get any last minute shopping done and meet up with some friends and family to spend the day with, before eating Christmas dinner with them. But today wasn't that to Mabel.

Dipper was nowhere in sight, and Mabel knew she was alone.

With her deciding to move to Gravity Falls with Dipper on their 18th birthday and Stan dying of old age when they were 19, the Mystery Shack was in the hands of the twins… But Dipper had to go a week after Stan's death.

He was shipped out to basic training.

Dipper enlisted in the army in hopes of growing stronger than before, and learning more about places like Gravity Falls, in hopes of finding and solving the secrets hidden within.

Yet, that was over two years ago and Mabel decided not to visit their parents back in Piedmont.

Mabel sat at the table, burning a candle for Dipper like she did every day after his deployment. The candle gave her hope that Dipper was alive and well. She hoped that it meant that at least.

A letter came in a 3 weeks ago saying that Dipper and his entire platoon was captured by insurgents in Somalia.

Mabel held the letter in her hands as she cried. Teardrops stained the letter and smudged up the writing offering condolences. Yet, Mabel only needed to see one sentence.

"PFC. Dipper Pines has been declared M.I.A. after combat against insurgents in Somalia." Mabel read it to herself quietly in disbelief as she's done for three weeks now. She still couldn't believe what she was reading.

Denial. That was the only word someone would think.

Mabel started to break down in tears when she heard a knock at the door. She walked over to the window, but could only see a Humvee parked a few feet from the shack.

She dreaded the news that would come from this. The only thing she could expect was hearing the news that Dipper was declared K.I.A., news she hoped she wouldn't ever hear.

She slowly opened the door to reveal 3 soldier wearing army A.C.U.'s. The one in front wore a mask that hid his face he asked in a familiar voice, "May we enter?" Mabel nodded and the three soldiers walked inside.

"Ms. Pines, I presume?" The soldier wearing the mask asked Mabel, who was still shocked by the early-morning visitation replied, "Yes I am." The soldier continued, "We have some news for you, PFC. Dipper Pines has been found alive and is home for Christmas. His injures from his captivity have earned him an Honorable discharge from the army. "

Mabel smiled before yelling, "Really?!" The soldier took off his mask to reveal, Dipper, alive and well after being imprisoned for weeks. Mabel couldn't believe what she was seeing and sputtered out, "Dipper, is that you?" Dipper nodded and they fell into each other's embrace.

"I missed you bro." Dipper answered Mabel, "I missed you too." She continued,

"This is the best Christmas present ever."

A/N Christmas is in two days! Also two stories in to days! I needed to write something to lighten the mood after my last story. I needed to practice changing moods in stories before I can continue writing other stories. Tell me how I did or any story prompts you might have. Merry Christmas!
