The Bright Side

Disclaimer- CSI belongs to CBS etc. I only take pleasure in borrowing from their greatness, though I can never live up to their standards.
A/N: This is something I wrote a while ago and only just dragged out to type up and post. Hope you like!
We'd been working overtime for a week trying to catch this bastard. Going over and over everything a million times, looking for that crucial piece of evidence that would get us the warrant we needed for this guy's DNA.
We all knew he was responsible from his attitude and slight references to him in the victim's business records, though Grissom would never admit he had a hunch. Our only problem was it was all too innocent. There was nothing to suggest our guy had a motive, nothing, hence no warrant.
But once we had his DNA, that's when it would all come together. We'd have him, we'd prove it.
And now we'd found that clue, or rather Sara had. Computer records regarding a failed business deal for him about two years ago. The reason it failed- our victim.
Sara announced her find with a 'cat got the mouse' look on her face, a drastic change to the snappy frustrated attitude from the days before. I swear Greg wouldn't have lasted another day being the main focus of it. Or any of the rest of us.
So here I was now, along with Detective Conroy, warrant in hand as the door opened.
"Stephen Kellagan? I'm Detective Conroy. I'm sure you remember CSI Stokes."
"What are you doing here? Haven't you already got my statement, I had nothing to do with it and you can't prove anything."
Yeah this guy was real co-operative.
"Yes we can Mr Kellagan, we have a warrant for your DNA."
"No way! You can't do that!"
"It's a warrant, so yes we can. You can call your attorney if you have to, but he'll just say the same thing."
Death glares were our only response.
Trying to help I said "I just need to take a swab of saliva from the inside of your mouth."
He projected some of that saliva at me. In other words he spat in my face.
"There's your DNA sample." Kellagan disappeared behind a slammed door.
Great, just great.
On the bright side, at least I got the DNA sample.
