My Only One
I turned my back and walked away
thinking of words I just couldn't say
I'm sorry this happened,
I'm sorry you cried
but I couldn't just sit there
and cause you to die
You were all I ever wanted
and the only one I loved
you were my hopes and dreams
and all I was ever thinking of
so as I turned my back to you
I hope you'll always know
that everything we had was true
and it's not something I'll ever let go
If I had my choice,
I would always choose
any path that led to you
you were my dream
you were my light
as hopeless as things would seem
you made them turn out right
I lived behind a solid wall
forever wide and unendingly tall
but you knocked it down
and swept away my fears
so when I looked around
I saw more than my ocean of tears
The only way you'd let me go
was if I no longer let my feelings show
I loved you more than words could describe
but if you saw that,
I knew you would die
so I saved your life,
but broke your heart
and anything I could have done
would still have torn us apart
Live on without me
though it may not be the same
I just wish that you might see
that my feelings have never changed,
I'll savor our memories,
for they're all I have that remains
and when my time is done
I live forever to save you from my pain
