Castiel has no idea why he decided to come back to this time.

Even with all of his brothers and sisters in heaven, he still missed them.

He missed his friends.

So much so that it made his chest ache.

That is why he staying here…watching them.

It was Dean's sixth birthday. John decided to take the boys to the park. He could see the marks on Dean's soul from his mother's death. Her death was still flesh within his mind but the presence of Sam acted like a balm for his soul. It left him awe on how soon those familiar bonds form between them.

Although, the bonds would grow and change over the years, the foundations were there.

And….

He almost smiled to himself. Dean would have said that he was brooding. He wasn't brooding. He was thinking thoughts of the past. And Sam would have given him an understanding look and a pat on his shoulder.

He returned his attention back to Sam and Dean. Sam was amusing himself with sand. He watched Sam take a handful of sand and throw it into the air. The little boy giggled and clapped as the sand rain down on him.

It made his chest ache to remember such innocence.

His eyes moved to Dean, who was playing on the monkey bars nearby. He wasn't surprised to see that Dean kept Sam in sight. Then he felt something pull at his trench coat. He looked down to see Sam pulling at his coat. He couldn't understand Sam's babbling but he could see the pictures in his head. He was worried when Sam saw him as something like a pretty light.

This isn't very good at all.

"Sammy!" Dean's voice shouted.

He looked away from Sam to see little Dean running toward them. Instantly, Dean picked up Sam. Sam giggled and wrapped his little arms around his brother's neck. Dean was busy giving him a look.

"I mean no harm."

Dean gave him an I-don't-quite-believe-you look.

"Your brother likes…" He was about to say before Sam grabbed his tie.

He wasn't sure how Sam was able to get a hold of his tie.

"Sammy, let go of the mister's tie," Dean said as he tried to get his brother to remove his hands from his tie. He wasn't quite how Sam was able to reach that far or that fast.

Once Dean and he got Sam free of his tie, Dean pulled his little brother close.

"Sorry, mister."

"It is quite alright."

Dean set his brother on the ground next to him and held his hand. It was a possible to prevent him going for his tie again.

"Oh, Happy Birthday, Dean."

Dean's face morphed in a surprise look.

"I heard your father."

"Thanks, Mister."

He heard a bleeping noise. Instantly, he patted his pocket. He could have sworn that he turned off the annoying device. His eyes widen slightly when he turned to see Sam pushing the buttons on his cell phone.

He was being to think that Sam was a thief in another life.

"SAMMY!"

"It is quite alright. He can have it. It is out of minutes."

Dean blinked in confusion.

"….K…"

"Dean…Sam! Back over here."

Dean gave him a sad look before he pulled his brother with him.

Briefly, he wondered if this was why he fell.

End

A/N: I had this story sitting on my hard drive for quite awhile (way before Season 6 started.) While, I am disappointed that Cas lost his human qualities…I can't do anything about it. Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys and review if you wish.
