Part 166 of the Elfwine Chronicles. The Elfwine Chronicles are a series of one-shots built around the family group of Eomer, Lothiriel and Elfwine. The total number will depend on how many ideas I get for new vignettes.
A/N: A little something for the season.
Perspective
(Apr, 1 IV)
At a glance, the man and woman reclining against the pillows of their bed, huddled around the child the woman held, were just two ordinary people. Not until one noticed the fine linens of the bedchamber, and the rich clothing that the couple wore, was it evident that they were possibly more.
Here was the king and queen of Rohan, gazing raptly upon their first child – a son. As with all new parents, they were overwhelmed with how easy it was to love this little mite. They counted and recounted his fingers and toes, and caressed his features with a tender finger. The making of a child was simple enough; men and women did it every day. But it was almost incomprehensible to look upon such perfection and accept that they had some part in this miracle of creating new life.
The couple had laid there for some time without speaking, but now the man felt the need to try and express the feelings inside him. "The hope of the Riddermark is reborn in our son, our little Elfwine. Here lies the child who one day will be king," Eomer murmured reverently.
Choked with emotion, it took a moment for Lothiriel to marshal her thoughts. At length she replied, "A king he will be, yes, but first and foremost he will be my son – my firstborn. Whatever he does or does not become in life, he will always hold my heart, this babe that I have carried."
She pressed a kiss to the downy head as her husband nodded his agreement. "Yes, I did not mean to suggest otherwise. Much will one day be placed upon his shoulders, but so long as I draw breath his greatest importance is that he is our son, born of our love."

End note: It is best that you read the Elfwine Chronicles in the order they were written. The more of them that I wrote, the more likely I was to make reference to one of the previous ones and something that happened there. If you want to read them in order, go to the top of this page and click on my name (Deandra). That will take you to my profile page. Scroll down and you will find all the stories I have written. The Elfwine Chronicles are in order from bottom to top since ffn shows them in the order they were posted. A few were posted out of number order, but you can read them in posting order or number order since those few won't be affected in the story content.
