-Despair:
noun - the complete loss or absence of hope.
verb - lose or be without hope.
Everyone feels despair at some point in their life. But no one understands it better than the Uchiha clan. Despair is a part of every Uchiha's life. They cannot escape it. The sharingan is their ocular gift. However, the gift it gave was the gift of despair. It is a destiny not a single one of them escaped. It was the only way to achieve the next level. Some chose to do whatever it took to obtain it; others, didn't have the choice. Some had loved ones who died in battle; some took the eyes of other sharingan holders; some gained the next stage through rivalry and their hatred and anger towards that rival; some tried protecting others...and failed; some watched family members die in front of them; some had to kill their own family...a recurring theme is: trauma.
This is what evolved the sharingan. An Uchiha would be placed in a traumatic situation, then they would be engulfed with a sense of despair; causing their eyes to react. Once it was realized the sharingan could be evolved and how, some took advantage of it. They allowed themselves to be swallowed by darkness. No matter what it took, they would go to the next level. Then, once they achieved it, it wasn't enough. They would continue down the path of darkness, hungry for more. All the while, not noticing how deep they were going. It was a vicious cycle. This also allowed hatred and revenge in. They would indeed gain more in their visual prowess, however, while their eyes were getting better, they were becoming more and more blind. People that they had once cared about, and deep down still cared about, tried to warn and stop them. Although, they were attacked by the very person they were trying to save. The sharingan user became so blinded by hatred, that they didn't see they were hurting the very people, the only people, they cared about. Some people, even those who weren't Uchiha, craved this power as well. This is what inevitably led to the massacre of the Uchiha clan.
Now, only one, full blooded Uchiha remains. He has since righted his wrongs. He is now married to a lovely wife, and they are preparing to meet the future of the Uchiha. Will she experience all of the hate? All of the lust for power and revenge? Will she feel the agonizing pain of despair? Probably. But, perhaps, it could be different this time. She will have loving parents to guide her. Maybe she could change the way the sharingan develops. Instead of hate, it could be love. It could be, that the despair will fade away, and the lack of hope will be no more. For this child, is indeed, the hope of the Uchiha.
A/N: This was interesting to write. I purposefully left the POV unknown. It lets the reader decide who is narrating the story and I love that. While writing it, I envisioned a few different people telling it. Who do you see telling this story and to who? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
