The End Was Nigh

The moon up high

An end is nigh

There is fear within the air

Although they're cold

Nine men stay bold

And face the struggle that they share

"Tonight's the night

That we must fight!"

The Soldier wails in the dark

Although the truth

The naïve youth

Grimaced at his grisly remark

In offish thought

They stand aloft

And stare into the quiet zone

Lo and behold

Robots are heard

Rattling in the cool midnight tone

Prepared to die

These men comply

With the orders that they received

They open fire

And aim up higher

Alone - in need – afraid – bereaved

As muzzles flash

The robots dash

Attempting to reclaim lost land

They all fall down

And hug the ground

Burying their souls in the sand

To double-check

That they were wrecked

The men begin to shoot the ground

After a while

They start to smile

And chortle at the deathly sound

Now they have won

They sing a song

But at what price do they do so?

Somewhere out there

Someone did care

For the robots that he did know

What is the cost?

What price do they pay?

The day isn't lost

But their souls are away

Maybe not man

Certainly nothing less

These robots could and can

But they fight them regardless

The end was nigh

The robots cried

There was fear within the air

Heartless and cold

Nine men stood bold

And slaughtered everyone there
