B'Elanna Torres marched up to the holodeck door. She had booked three hours in it, to get some practice with the bat'leth in, and relieve some of her anger. She stopped dead outside the door, someone was already in. She checked the logs, it was Tom. She decided to use an override and surprise him, then tell him off.

As the doors opened before her, she stepped in and got completely drenched. She growled, she was not amused.

Looking around she seemed to be in a street on earth and it was pouring down with rain.

She wondered what the hell Tom was doing here and started looking for him. Eventually she spotted him at the end of the street standing in a doorway and staring blankly into space. She ran up to him eager to get out of the rain. His back was facing her so he didn't see her, and evidently he didn't hear her either because he nearly jumped out of his skin when she tapped him on the shoulder. He whirled round to face her and immediately seemed to snap out of his daze.

"B'Elanna what are you doing here?" He asked.

B'Elanna smiled, "I was gonna ask you the same thing flyboy, its my holodeck time."

"Sorry I kinda lost track of time."

"I gathered that," she looked around, "So where is this anyway?"

"It's my hometown, on earth, where I lived when I was a kid?"

"Wonderful weather", B'Elanna commented dryly.

Tom grinned sheepishly. "Well . . . I kinda missed the rain."

B'Elanna shivered the rain was getting to her; she wrapped her arms round herself trying to warm up.

Tom looked at B'Elanna's stance, and interpreted it entirely differently. "I'd better go", he said. "I'll see you when you finish in here?" Tom walked off.

"Tom", B'Elanna called and ran after him down the street.

He stopped.

"Are you sure you're ok?" she asked.

"Yeah", Tom nodded, "I'm fine". He managed a weak smile, "I'm just a bit wet." As he turned to walk away, B'Elanna grabbed his arm and propelled him around to face her. She looked him squarely in the eye, "tell me the truth Tom."

He look around his hometown and turned back to her, "it's just we've been away from Earth for such a long time. . . and it doesn't look like we're going to return anytime soon. And I just miss the simple things the rain, buildings, a walk in the countryside, the real countryside. I keep thinking of all the 'what ifs'. What I if I had decided not to help Janeway? Where would I be now? On earth is probably the answer." Tom sighed as he gazed into B'Elanna's eyes. "But then I suppose that I wouldn't have had the chance to start again, to make new friends, and I wouldn't have met you". He leaned down to kiss B'Elanna, she accepted the gesture and responded warmly.

After a while he broke off. "I'd better go and get changed, I'm soaked."

B'Elanna grinned, "I think I'd better cancel my time in here, and get changed too."

"Sorry about that", Tom apologised.

"That's ok, B'Elanna let out a world weary sigh.

Tom glanced at her, "hard day?"

She nodded.

Tom took her hand. "Tell me about it . . . "

"Well, first Carey was late, then . . ."

Hand in hand they walked down the corridor perfectly content in each other's company.
