Ch. 1

Crash!

I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes.

"Dad?" I said.

I walked down the hallway, my feet making soft noises that were as loud as gunshots in the deadly silence of the night. A strange man in dark cowl ran past me in the hall my brain filled with mind numbing terror as I realized where he was headed.

"Dad!" I shouted, terrified, breaking the dead silence of the night, not caring who heard me.

I started sprinting down the hall like my life depended on it, making soft pitter-patter noises on the stone floor. The door was slightly ajar, so I squeezed in, my breath ragged, heart pumping with the adrenaline rush. Cool, white moonlight flooded through the window, along with a cool, gentle breeze. The gentle light landed on the bed where he was sleeping.

The door began to creak open on its hinges. A shadowy figure walked leisurely into the room. He was carrying the sharpest knife I have ever seen in my life. He seemed not to have a care in the world and barely held onto the knife. Right now, this unknown man was about to kill my father.

"No!" I shouted and startled them both out of their skins. The man dropped his knife. Fail. Then time seemed to slow down around me. It was the weirdest and most draining experience ever. It was still really cool. The man had a scar on his face. It seemed somewhat of a recent scar. It reached from the middle of his forehead diagonally between his nose and eye on the right side and halfway down his check. There was a tattoo on his shoulder that was an eagle with 6 arrows through it representing the dark gods. The knife was deathly sharp. He had ablack cloak that made him lend into the shadows. His dark eyes were steely with focus and intent on making sure that his job was done right.
