Daddy's Birthday
Chakotay used his override code to gain access to the captains quarters. When he stepped inside he saw her by her window pacing, he could tell she was stressed about something. She rubbed her forehead and eyes then started fiddling with her hair and the strap of her red night dress, she crossed her arms and turned to face him.
"How long have you been standing there?" she asked quietly
"Only a few minuets"
She sighed
"What's the matter Kathryn?" Chakotay asked as he walked towards her.
"Nothing I'm fine"
"Kathryn"
"Really I…" she was cut off by Chakotay
"You may be fooling the rest of the crew Kathryn but not me, please tell me what it is that's bothering you?"
"It's nothing just something Harry said that's all"
"What did Harry say?"
"Just some stuff about home"
"You don't normally get this stressed when someone mentions Earth"
"It was stuff about friends, family, graduations"
"What else?"
Kathryn turned away from him
"He said his parents were always present at all of his graduations, how they were so proud of him"
Chakotay was confused.
"My mother came to most of my graduations but not all as did my sister but my father was never there he was always to busy working"
"Oh Kathryn" Chakotay put his hands on her shoulders but she pushed him off and walked in to her bedroom, Chakotay followed her. She was sitting on her bed with her back to him.
"Go away" she said he could tell she was almost crying
"No there's something else upsetting you Kathryn tell me" he walked over and sat behind her "I want to help"
They sat for a few minutes the only sound was Kathryn trying not to crying. Chakotay was about to give up and go back to his quarters when Kathryn finally said
"Daddy"
"What?" Chakotay asked softly
"Daddy, it was his birthday today"
"Oh Kathryn"
She began to sob uncontrollably, Chakotay lifted her up and on to his lap she buried her head in to his shoulder. He held her and rocked her gently
"There there" he said over and over again
They sat there for a wile after Kathryn had stopped crying
"I miss him" Kathryn whispered
"I know you do we all miss our family when there gone"
She nodded and yawned, Chakotay smiled
"Come on lets get you in to bed"
Kathryn allowed him to tuck her in
"Goodnight Kathryn" Chakotay said as he bent down and kissed her forehead. He was walking to the door when Kathryn asked
"Chakotay would … would you hold me till I fall asleep"
"Of course"
Chakotay got in to the bed next to her
"Thank you Chakotay"
"Your welcome"
"I love you" Kathryn said sleepily
"I love you to Kathryn"
She fell asleep. Chakotay kissed her hair and said
"Good night my brave woman warrior" and with that Chakotay fell asleep as well
