It was late and Kanaya knew that she should really be getting to sleep. Not that she was going to stop; her newfound hobby was quite addiciting in all actuality. Meet 3 sweeps old Kanaya, just learning how to use a sewing machine for the very first time. Earlier that day a present had arrived from one of Kanaya's friends, even though it was sent anonymously, there was a small note on the package when she received it. "ENJOY. YOU DESERVE IT; JUST DON'T HURT YOURSELF OR SOMETHING." She had smiled to herself and tacked the note onto a corkboard in her room. Obviously she knew who it was from but decided it would be best to wait for him to say something rather than poke and pry for the truth. The instruction manual to the sewing machine was initially confusing but she was deteremined to figure out how the machine worked. At this rate she didn't really care what it took, she was going to be the most fashionable troll in all of Alternia if it killed her.
"Now How Do I Thread It" She asked curiously, looking at the front and winding her neck behind to see if there was a spot for the needle. She had just figured out how to thread a bobbin (manually, the machine was still confusing to try and manipulate to do anything but simple stiches). After sticking the bobbin underneath the plate where the needle would come in and out of rapidly, she continued to ponder which ways the machine is supposed to be threaded.
After multiple attemps, Kanaya finally figured it out, not without some frustration of course. Now that she knew though, it was time to attempt her first project. It was pretty simple with a cute pattern on the cloth. Excitedly, she cut out the pattern and pinned it to the material. Carefully, ever so carefully, did she snip out the pieces. After a good hour of pure concentration and gripping a pair of scissors far too tightly she let out a sigh of relief and admired her work as she stood up to stretch.
Just as she was about to gather her pieces and prepare to set them up on the sewing machine, her computer dinged. Hurrying, she separated the pieces from the scraps and set them on the table next to the machine. Then she went over to the one pillow where she sat at and picked up her husktop.

Kanaya smiled to herself and went back to her project. Lining up the pieces carefully she hunched over and spent another couple hours working away on her sewing machine. By two A.M. the dress was done and she was satisfied. She tried it on and twirled around her room a couple times before it dawned on her that Karkat was okay with her making something for him. After thinking long and hard, she searched for a notebook and started sketching out a design.
When she finished, on her notepad was a carefully drawn, little black sweater with his troll symbol stitched in grey. Yes, the perfect thank you.
