Author's Notes:

I hadn't really thought this story through, but I did know that I wanted to see more Liara/Shepard fics. This is just a quick one shot and can take place at pretty much any time in the game if you really streach your imagination.

I welcome reviews and constructive critisism gladly (anything to improve my writing, or just feedback), but this is my first submission, so please be as nice?

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy it.

The Game

They had a game.

The rule? Don't get caught.

Liara T'Soni knew her opponent well: all of her little secret spots, all of her hidden desires, all of her weaknesses. She knew that she would shudder beneath her fingers, as their tips grazed the tender inside of her wrist. Liara smiled, only for Shepard, a catty smile, that made Shepard go weak in the knees. She would bite her lips; lick her lips; flutter her eyelashes slowly, seductively... and Shepard would be all hers. When she did all the things that drove Shepard wild, she could practically feel her surrender to her. She could feel Shepard's want; feel her need, for Liara and Liara alone.

Unfortunately for Liara, Shepard too, knew her opponent well. Shepard knew all Liara needed was her presence beside her, and she could feel the pull towards her. Shepard would walk with her, only barely touching her. She could see the desire building in her eyes. She would gently brush her hand against her thigh while they sat, leaning over to let her breath tickle her ear when Shepard apologized. How Shepard would breathe the name; 'Liara', always aroused the want. She knew she had her in her grasp when she doubled her efforts towards her.

The catch? They played their game surrounded by crewmembers of the Normandy and other faculty.

Again, the rule? Don't get caught.

There was never a winner; though they would both claim the title. But once, just once, they had both lost the game unknowingly. It had been a cozy afternoon with the Normandy docked at the Citadel's ports, when they both let their guard down. Just once, when Shepard had been escorting Liara back to the small office of the medical bay – always remaining out of her reach – Liara gave her that smile and the flutter of her eyelashes. She bid her goodnight. She picked up on that signal that she sent her, the one which begged her to indulge in her kiss.

They let their guard down; Shepard pinned Liara against the door of the medical bay, fingers wound on to Liara's lilac crest, and her lips pressed against Shepard's in a heated kiss. Liara wound her arms around Shepard's neck, pulling her closer, as close as she could possibly be at that moment.

The moment itself only lasted few seconds. But a someone witnessed those few seconds, making them both the losers of their game. Chief Ashley Williams - on her way to look for Shepard and Liara – smiled to herself, as she back tracked her steps and rounded her way back around the corner.
