Part One-The Allies

Kapitel Ein-Die Graben

Teil Ein- Das Verbündeter

BOOM!

The ground shook as the shells fell one after another. The boy's ears rang with the sounds of grenades and gunfire. And he had been one of the lucky ones. He had gotten out of the invasion alive. None of them had seen it coming. The monster had said he would stop, and everyone believed him. Then all of a sudden the town was infested with enemy soldiers, annexing the country in the name of their own. It had all happened so fast. The boy and his father managed to escape, but his mother and sister had been captured. That was why they allied themselves against the Axis, to find and free their loved ones. A year later during a raid on one of the labor camps the boy had found his mother's name on a list of prisoners who had been sent to the gas chambers. His mother was gone, but there was still hope for his sister. He didn't know where she was or what had become of her. He could only hope that wherever she was she was alive and well.

Next to the boy was an even younger child. This little boy was only fourteen and was still fresh out of training. He was shaking in his boots and tightly clutching his weapon.

They're getting younger and younger, the youth mused to himself, this kid's to young and inexperienced, not to mention scared out of his mind. He won't last a day out here. The youth remembered the little boy's story. He had lived in the opposing country when the war started. If it hadn't been for some caring people he would have never have made it. He had lost his entire family to the Axis, but didn't seem too keen on revenge. He had supported the appeasement act until it was broken. Now he just seemed scared.

"Alright men!"his father's voice claimed the youth's attention. It was his father who had risen through the ranks and was now leading the troops into battle. He stared in awe at the man rallying spirit into the hearts of those about to walk into their graves. "We all came here to fight," the man continued, "and we shall fight until there is no one left, and whether it be us or them only God can know, but we will fight to the last breath if we don't claim victory first. We shall fight by one another, as brothers we shall stand against the face of tyranny until the last shot is fired!"

The soldiers cheered and charged out of the trench into battle.
