In the walls of the research facility, the military official of G.U.N clunked boredly down the hall. He paused at the door to a lab.
Punching in the code, the door slid open to reveal a purple hedgehog with dark black bangs. "Doctor." he said coldly, the hedgehog giving a start from the sudden noise. "I- sir!," he said, fixing his glasses that seemed to magnify his orange orbs.
"Progress on the serum?"
He fixed his glasses," Um...it's beginning the development stage. "Make it testable tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?!," he yelped," But sir, it's highly-"
"I don't care.," he officer said, his arms behind his back. "Get it done or else."
Frowning, he walked out of the room. The hedgehog speechless. Fury spilled across the meek features as he kicked over a chair.
"You know what? Fuck it.," he said, grabbing files needed and taking the unfinished serum and placing it in a suitcase.
Quickly, he made his way out of the laboratory. Fully determined to complete his seemingly impossible task.
When he arrived, home, Nigel kept the door close as quiet as he could as not to awake his twin brother. Silently, he walked down into the basement.
He sighed as he set the suitcase down on the table. "Idiots...," he muttered. "It's been ready, it's just dangerous. Which is why I'm not going to let anyone have it for their purpose.," he said, grasping the vile. "And no matter what happens after this...they won't be able to touch my family again.," he said, setting his serum in a holder.
He sighed as he grasped a water bottle, opening it and taking a long drink. Setting the bottle down, he sighed. It was going to be difficult. "Nigel?," a voice asked, the hedgehog flinching and bumping the table. Unknowing to him the serum tipped and spilled into his water, the dark liquid going transparent in an instance.
"Darki? What are you doing up?," he asked," I thought I heard you come home.," his twin said quietly, his purple bangs messy.
"I'll be up in a minute.," he said, grasping his water and taking a long sip. With a sigh, he walked to the stairs," Come on, let's get to bed." He said softly.
The two climbed up the stairs for the night.
In the morning, Nigel groaned unpleasantly. He felt sick.
With a pained sound, he sat up. His chest was on fire. He glanced down, black markings resting on the sides and top and bottom of his peach spot. "W-what?," he whispered, black liquid dripping down onto the fabric. His hand went up gently, touching his cheek. Pulling back, it shook at the liquid apparent on it.
He rushed to the bathroom for a better look. "What?!" He saw divots under his eyes, the whites of his eyes pure black.
He shivered as his mind began to wander. "They can't...be allowed...," he started," I need to stop this...," he continued.
With a manic giggle he went to get dressed for work.
From a distance, Nigel watched with unnatural glee as the facility burned slowly to the ground.
"Now they can't...do it.," he said, grinning a bit.
He giggled again, walking away from the inferno.
"Nigel!," Darkness ran up, looking horrified," I heard everything was on fire at your work! Are you ok-" he cut himself off at the sight of his brother.
"Darki, we're safe, everything's great!," Nigel said, giggling again. "Oh god...," Darkness felt tears well up in his eyes. "Bro...Nigel come on," he held out his hand," Let's go home. Ok?"
"Ok...," Nigel obediently took his hand, letting him lead him away.
At home, Darkness sat down in the basement, Nigel leaning against the wall. Darkness sobbed at the sight of the complicated file notes. "Oh god..." He said, his hands resting against his muzzle. "I don't know what to do...How can I help you go back to normal."
Darkness looked at the crazed shell of his brother. "But I will find a way brother...I will!," he said with determination.
"I promise!"
