The day had finally come for Light to have his confrontation with Near in the Yellow Box warehouse. Light was calm on the outside, but on the inside, he was extremely happy. Everyone that was standing in Light's way of becoming god of the new world would die today. Light's plan was perfect and there was nothing anyone could do to stop it. Near was brilliant, but he was nothing even close to L and Light had already defeated L. Near was barely worthy enough to be Light's enemy. Light stepped out of the car and walked into the cold, metallic building. It was the middle of winter and was wickedly cold. The warehouse had no heating what so ever, so it made the already tense atmosphere tenser. Light's hand was starting to go numb because he wasn't wearing gloves. Across from Light, there were several people standing around a small figure on the floor. Light recognized two of the people. One of them was the spy that the SPK had sent to watch Takada. The other one was Mogi. Light figured that the crouching person on the floor was Near. He was wearing an L mask and was shivering violently. Mogi and Aizawa told Light that the figure on the floor was, indeed, Near. "Whether this is the real Near is of no interest to me." Light told them. This was a lie of course. If it wasn't really Near then Light's plan would fail. Matsuda started whining something about how it was unfair that Near was wearing a mask. Light tried to calm him down.

"Th-this mask i-is just insurance." said Near. Light realized that he was stuttering because of how hard he was shivering. Near went on to explain why he was wearing the mask just to be safe. They waited for fifteen minutes. Near's shivering seemed to get worse. Another fifteen minutes passed.

"Near it's been more than thirty minutes now and nothing's happened." said Matsuda.

"Of course, that's because Kira isn't here." Light lied. But Kira was there and Kira would kill them all.

"I-I'll…take it off." Near weakly stuttered out. He lifted a trembling hand that had turned incredibly pale from the cold up to his mask and removed it. Near's face was as pale as his hand. It looked like someone had drained all the color out of it. For his skin to get that pale, it must have had to have been incredibly pale to begin with.

"Near,…..how long have you been waiting for us to get here?" Near didn't respond. He dove to the ground and put his arms over his head. Light walked over to him. "Are you..ok? Near just looked up and Light with blank eyes as he shivered even more. Light realized that Near was incredibly underdressed for how cold it was. All he was wearing was a thin, white pajama shirt and white pants. He had hypothermia. Light actually felt something that he never thought he would actually feel for anyone in his way. He felt pity. Near really did look pathetic. His albinoism, black eyes, the way he was putting his arms over his head, and the way he was shivering made him look like a dying kitten. Near gave Light one last look that seemed to scream "help me". He closed his onyx black eyes and collapsed. Light realized just how long he had been waiting for them to get there. It was too long for Near.

The other members of the SPK instantly rushed to his side. The other members of the Japanese task force also rushed over too to see if he was ok. Light stared at his opponent's cold, lifeless, helpless, body and knew that he probably wasn't.
