This is based off of the quote "to whom much is given, much is expected." My sixth hour teacher kept referring to this and I could not get this idea out of my head.

Disclaimer: I don't own Merlin.

To Whom Much is Given

There were times that Merlin felt completely overwhelmed. He, more than anyone else, could say that he had the weight of the world pressing down on his shoulders. Each day he was forced to make decisions that affected everyone around him. One mistake on his part could cost many people their lives.

It was during these times that Merlin questioned the gift he had been given. Why had he been chosen? Why was he forced to hide who he truly was? How was he supposed to fulfill the greatest destiny known to man?

He was supposed to be the mighty Emrys, a person that was supposed to shape the future of mankind. He was supposed to be the greatest magical being in the world. He was supposed help unite the land of Albion with the Once and Future King and restore magic to the land once again.

In all honesty, Merlin was afraid of his destiny. He could barely walk without falling over. How was he supposed to fulfill such a grand destiny? He was afraid of making mistakes. He was afraid of hurting the people he cared for. He was afraid of making the wrong decisions. Above all, he was afraid of failure.

He had been given an extraordinary gift, a gift that surpassed all others. With that gift came expectations that he had to live up to. He did not know why he had been chosen to receive such a special gift, but he had it. All he could do was use it and cope with the responsibilities that came with it as best he could. Even though he often felt overwhelmed, he would do everything in his power to fulfill his destiny.

Destiny could ask for nothing less than that.
