Gold did it on purpose.

Gold made a point of calling Silver at least once a week. The call would always come at the same time: 10:00pm. He never knew on which days Gold would call, and so Silver made sure that he would be available every night. After all, Gold was even more of a pest when Silver missed his calls or brushed him off and attempted to end the call in a hurry.

Gold did it on purpose, and he must laugh at the thought of Silver waiting, keeping one eye on his Pokegear every night.

There was no way that Gold would call tonight. Silver had only left New Bark Town that afternoon after being convinced to come for dinner and then to stay the night during the day previous. He had spoken with Gold less than twelve hours ago. Gold had no reason to call.

No sooner than Silver had decided this did his Pokegear begin to ring, an annoying jingle that prompted Silver to answer if only to silence the noise. "What is it?" Silver abandoned greetings and common courtesy, jumping straight to the point.

"Good evening to you too, Silver."

Already, Silver had the feeling that this wouldn't be a quick "good night". A heavy feeling settled in his gut, though Silver dismissed it as he laid back. He might as well get comfortable...

"Old habits die hard, don't they?"

What? What brought that up? There was no way...

"What are you talking about?" Silver asked, forcing himself to keep calm.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about! Even now, you continue to steal and take things as you please!"

Silver took a deep breath, releasing it as a sigh. "Like what?" How much had Gold noticed? Granted, Silver was still surprised that he'd managed to get away with it for as long as he had.

"Like my heart!" What? "You've stolen my heart, Silver, and I want it back!"

Silver couldn't help the laugh that escaped him, though he regretted it shortly after. He could practically hear Gold smiling on the other end of the line. Silver told himself that he wasn't amused, and that Gold was simply misunderstanding his relief.

"You're an idiot."

Only partially listening to the voice on the other end of the line, Silver examined the mysterious Pokeball he'd picked up that morning. Really, it was just one more trinket he'd picked up from Gold's room, like those feathers or that bell. He thought nothing of the fact that it was one part gold and one part silver, with the letters G and S carved into it.

Honestly.
