AN: Hi. this is my first ever fan fiction, made out of my desire to be productive this summer. I am doing this on the fanfiction app on my phone, and I'm still not quite familiar with it. Reviews and constructive criticism are highly appreciated.

A boy was lying down.

The first thing he felt was the cold. Seeping into his core, engulfing him in icy numbness. Around him was pitch black darkness.

Shivering involuntarily, he struggles to stand up.

He falls down again and lets out a gasp as his head hits a sharp rock up ahead. Cursing, he uses his hands to feel around him.

Rock. Cold rock. A cold, dark place with lots of rocks.

"Uh, why the fuck am I inside a cave?"

"... where are my pokemon?"

"No one answered. So that probably means I'm alone he--"

"KRAAAAAA!!"

A high-pitched cry rang through the air.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"

Somehow, the boy's scream was higher-pitched. Panicking, he stood up again, and felt his head hit the same sharp rock he slammed onto earlier. He fell down again, knocked out. He hears maniacal laughter.

As he loses consciousness, last thing he can see is the darkness around him... moving.

"Are you a boy or a girl? Hehe... Stupid Pokedex. Helix god. Pika... pika... pi. Pfpt Hehe."

The boy manages a weak groan, and places a hand on his hurting head. It felt as if his head had slammed onto a sharp rock not just once, but twice.

It did, he remembers. But why am I in a cave? Before that, uhh... what happened? Let's see... I was training and--where are my pokemo--

The boy's thoughts are interrupted by a scream,

"LISTEN TO ME OR I'LL RIP YOUR HEART OUT AND LET IT FUCKING BLEED ONTO THE FUCKING ROCKS! Ooh! Also... uhh... it only takes an... average of... 5.4 minutes... for blood to freeze up here... hehe."

Startled, the boy looks around and sees... darkness. He faces the direction of the sound.

"W-where are you! Y-you might have heard of me! I am Trainer John, I already have eight badges and I'm on my way up! I currently do not have any of my pokemon with me, so if you want to battle you'd have to let me find them first..." The boy falters...

Silence. Then...

"... Hehe. I feel your... fear."

Then the boy sees a dull red circle of light slowly brightening up and revealing the face of the mysterious voice.

The bright red circle resides in one of two hollow sockets. The sockets are part of a bone-white, grinning visage of a skull, wreathed in shadow. The darkness coils around it in an eldrich robe.

"THIS IS MT. SILVER, YOU DUMMY! WE ALL HAD EIGHT BADGES HERE! Greeeeeetingsssss, human! I am the ghost of the... uhh... fallen... king Red! Hehe now let me FEED ON YOUR SOUL!"

Then the shadows coiled, the darkness roiled, and the inky blackness snapped at the boy. The grinning mouth opened.

The last thing he heard was the hair-raising cackle of the fallen champion. An insane scream of broken hope and loss. A beautiful, warped melody filled with intense pain, regret and cynicism. The shrill cacophony made by a ruined king giving up on the world he once held by the palm of his hand.

Now all the boy can see is the sharpened teeth, the dark claws. The burning, hateful gaze of a single, red eye.

Much like the League, Mount Silver stands tall, majestic, cold and deadly. Only those who are truly strong can try to climb its dangerous peaks. And always the strong will fail, leaving their hollow ghosts to haunt the cursed caves. The damned ghosts of kings and queens and champions and heroes and men and women of power, fruitlessly looking for the souls they had lost in their unending search for more power.
