J woke up around eight in the morning the next day. It was cloudy, he was cold, and he could see the frost on the grass. It was the kind of morning no one really wants to wake up to (except maybe the writer). Dazed, J managed to stumble to his feet, in the hopes he'd survive another painful day.

He walked out from underneath the bridge and looked up into the sky. J always sort of envied clouds. They never had anything to worry about, and they always floated by so carefree. J held himself to try and fight off the cool morning he woke up into. He made his way to the nearest trashcan, as he did every morning, in the hopes he could find a meal to keep him going a few more hours. He looked around. There was no one on the streets yet. He desperately began clawing and digging through the trash, just like any other morning. To his delight, he found some bread with a little mold on it. It was the best meal he had seen in quite a while, much better than the chicken bones he dug out the week before. He shoved the bread into his mouth. It was mushy and bad-tasting. But he managed to keep it down; it was his only option. He wretched for a couple minutes and made his way to a nearby park; more specifically, the park's local water fountain. The water tasted weird, to say the least. But he drank and drank as much as he could. He then walked into the bathroom, which was located just right of the water fountain.

After he did his business, he proceeded to make his way to his spot in the woods, just like any other morning. As he walked, he looked around to see there was nobody outside yet. Strange. By this time, the streets would have a few people, if not all of them. J didn't mind at all. In fact, it was a preferable change of pace from the usual glaring at the happy faces of Shizukesa village. He didn't have to put up with the sight of all those happy, complete families whom he would see any other morning. He continued walking.

Eventually, he found himself in the woods. As he made his way past all the trees, he noticed someone was sitting on his favorite tree stump. Great, just another conversation that he would have to avoid. He stood there, in that serene spot in the woods that he loved so much.

He noticed the person was a girl. She couldn't have been much older than ten, maybe eleven years old. She had dark purple hair, which was tied in a pony tail. She had on an elegant dress, especially for a girl her age. But J didn't care. He just wanted to sit on his usual spot.

He was about to ask her to get up, or move, or even leave. But he was stopped by the girl's serene, yet energetic voice. "Hello mister!" she said as she turned her head and body to face him. But before J could answer, he noticed something was wrong.

The girl's eyes. They were completely dark.
