Relationships are defined by the moments shared.

Some by the moments that take place so often they become as familiar to you as the person themselves; others by moments so singular and precious they stay with you for the rest of your life.

Albus shared hundreds of moments with Gellert Grindelwald, moments the rest of the world never knew of, never cared to know of. All the times they stayed awake, sharing secret conversations in the dead of night, endless stories and laughter and games that all merged together until each memory was nearly indistinguishable from the next and yet all beautiful. Moments forming a bond that would would always be precious to him.

Moments that seemed like they would never end, until they did.

His relationship with Minerva however was defined by just one moment. One single moment he would never forget, cementing her place in his heart.

It was the day after his battle with Gellert.

The day the world celebrated the loss of a villain.

The day everyone rushed to his side with a smile and a cheer to congratulate him on his victory.

The day Minerva took him aside, away from the noise and the excitement and for just one moment took his hand in her own and said "I'm so sorry for your loss"

One moment where she was the only one in the world who understood.

A/N: Story based on an alternate universe where Grindelwald was killed during his battle with Dumbledore battle rather than captured.
