Too Far Away
He was too far away, in the end.
Too far away to save her. Too far away to understand him. Too far away to help either of them.
Because he wasn't family? Was that it? Because he wasn't related to them by blood, he was useless to them? He couldn't accept that, once upon a time. But then Rei lay, pale, on that hospital bed, and Neo shut him out and what else could he accept but that cold hard truth that slapped him on the face?
He was too far away from them. In his veins was water, instead of the blood they shared.
