Chapter 1:The encounter
Melinda padded around her kitchen, sighing every now and then, aware that she should still be asleep. She wanted nothing more then to crawl back into bed with her husband Jim, if only it was that easy, for some reason sleep just wasn't coming to her tonight.
"What are
you doing up?"Jim stretched and ran a hand threw his hair.
"Can't
sleep." Melinda shrugged and smiled at him as he kissed her on the
head.
"You look worried." Jim walked around the kitchen table
where Melinda now sat, pulled out the chair beside her and sat
down.
"I am a little, I guess." Melinda watched as Jim yawned,
shaking his head furiously as the yawn finished.
"Why?" Jim
looked up at Melinda as she rubbed her eyes.
"I haven't had
any encounters lately, in like six months. I'm really worried that
I'm losing my gift." Melinda adverted her eyes, keeping them on
Jim as he made his way to the coffee pot. Turning around to look at
Melinda, Jim couldn't help but laugh.
"You can't lose
something you were born with, baby." Melinda looked at Jim serious
then let a laugh escape her lips.
"You can lose your hair."
Melinda, again, kept her eyes on Jim as he walked back to the table,
setting down his coffee cup as he pulled the chair out. Jim
frowned.
"Well, I guess you got me there." This made Melinda
laugh as she, herself, got up and walked over to the coffee pot. A
familiar flash of light caught Melinda off guard, the coffee cup that
she was holding tumbled to the ground, making Jim jump slightly.
Melinda watched as a girl no older then nine looked back at her, the
girl had no expression on her face. Melinda observed the bullet hole
in the middle of the little girls head, blood was flowing from it.
The little girl reached out for Melinda and it was then she realized
the girls lips had been sewn shut. Melinda walked towards the girl
slowly, as Melinda inched closer to the girl, she disappeared.
