Foolish

Okay, this title [points up], well, it's utterly ridiculous. I cannot currently think of anything better, and if you have any suggestions, please give them to me! This fic will probably be filled with everything from fluff to angst to humor to action (no not that kind, thought there will be some of that too), so I just put "general" on the rating. This contains spoilers for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, I believe, so if you haven't read the book, go out and buy it! If you have, then continue reading, and of course, review.

Disclaimer: Obviously, I don't own it.

Prologue

It was a fiercely hot and sunny July afternoon, with clear blue skies that beckoned the masses to take a leisurely stroll outdoors. Even the most conservative of wizards had laid aside their stiff, business attire today in exchange for more airy, casual wear. One figure, however, stuck out like a sore thumb. Clothed in black robes with the hood pulled up to conceal her face in shadow, she headed toward the Leaky Cauldron. Once safely inside, she claimed a dark corner that smelled of dust and loneliness, which was just fine with her. Here she was free to remove her hood, revealing her pale face, brown hair and deep brown eyes. The girl, known as Hermione Granger, withdrew a copy of The Daily Prophet from the folds of her robes and began reading, even as she felt the many pairs of eyes resting on her head. Hermione did not even consider acknowledging them; she knew from experience that if she were to look up no one would be staring at her, but that their eyes would return when she was preoccupied with something else. Ever since three months ago she had been followed by their accusing, slightly curious stares. Ever since she had been blamed for the horrifying event that could quite possibly lead to the destruction of the world.

The worst thing about this was not the stares, not the total isolation, loneliness, and betrayal she felt, not the fact that she would never be able to have an honorable job or walk around as a normal witch could. The worst thing was that it was true. Though they could never prove her guilt, or even her involvement, it was her fault that everything had gone so horribly wrong, and everyone knew it. Hermione wished she could tell someone that she hadn't meant to, that it was all a terrible accident and she had been manipulated by the one she had trusted the most and should have known not to trust. But there was no one she could tell, for she was ignored by all, expect for their stares, and they wouldn't have believed her story anyway. The fact was, no one would ever forgive her, and Hermione didn't blame them. For she would never forgive herself.

She once again studied the paper. Everywhere, evidence of what she had done showed. Headlines informed her of Voldemort's actions, the hordes of dying muggles and mudbloods, and the Death Eaters' search for the members of the Order of the Phoenix. And it was all because of me that he had the power, the knowledge to do this…Hermione thought miserably. Unbidden, the memories flooded back into her system, causing her to wonder once more how she could have been so foolish…

It's confusing, isn't it? Oh well, it was supposed to be vague. Please review, I really don't care whether it's a compliment, constructive criticism, or a flame. However, I would really appreciate feedback, and I am guaranteed to update faster if I get a good deal of responses.
