HICCUP POV:

"Okay, okay. Come on..." I mumbled to myself as I struggled to put the last finishing touch on the cake. "Maybe... here?" I sighed. "Nope." I looked for another place. Near the top?

"Too busy."

The middle?

"Weird."

The bottom?

"I can't do that! " I moaned, exasperated. "Come on, Hiccup. " I told myself. "This is for Astrid. You can do this."

"It looks fine!" Fishlegs came over to look at my project. "Astrid is going to love it."

"I- I just want everything to be perfect. "

"Hey!" Snotlout called from his vantage point: atop of a beam in the Great Hall, where we all were. "Speaking of perfect: check this out." He gestured to a large banner painted in gaudy colors that read, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ASTRID!"

I smirked in spite of myself. To each his own...

I returned to my work.

"Don't worry about it, Hiccup." Fishlegs tried to reassure me when he saw how stressed out I looked.

"I just don't want anything to happen to this place." I made my way over to a place where a decoration was crooked and straightened it. My nose started to run, but I sniffed it back. It's just a sniffle, I told myself. I'll be okay.

I looked up just in time to see the twins making a move on the cake.

"Ruff! Tuff!" I gulped, relieved that I may have just dodged a bullet. "What are you doing?" They looked at me, surprised.

"We're not eating cake." Ruffnut told me, innocently.

"Ruffnut..."

"But it's chocolate!"

"And it's for Astrid."

"And it's for Astrid." She sighed, mournfully.

Sorry, guys, I thought. Then I remembered: It's time!

"Are you sure you can handle them- er, this?" I asked Fishlegs. He grinned.

"Don't worry!"

"Yeah, go on!" Snotlout encouraged me. "We've got this!"

"Okay... just don't- don't touch anything."

"Okay, sheesh!" Snotlout rolled his eyes.

"And keep an eye on that cake!" I called to Fishlegs.

Toothless met me at the doors. He gave me a pink, gummy grin.

"You ready, bud?" I asked as I mounted him. He snorted as if to say, Are you?

"Let's go." I said, and we took off.
