An Inconvenient Flashback
Gibbs got up as he heard the knock he was expecting. He lifted himself up of his couch to go answer the door. "Hello Charlie." He grinned at the woman.
"Why hello Jethro."
"Come on in. Hope you like take out." He led her to his kitchen, where a small table had a paper bag. "Got Chinese."
"Sounds and smells," She winked. "Great." Gibbs pulled out her chair for her. "Ah. A gentleman."
"You doubted it?" He asked, smirking.
"Not for a second. Shall we dig in?"
"Yep."
They were eating for a little while, when Charlie reached her hand over and rubbed his.
Flashback- Paris.
He and Jenny were at a cafe in Paris. They were both laughing at something. She was holding his hand across the table.
End Flashback.
"Hon? You all right?" A woman's voice brought him out of the flashback.
"What oh yeah?" He said dazedly. "Not feeling great. How bout we continue this some other time?"
"Sounds grand." Charlie agreed. "Got to have you at the top of your game."
Gibbs led her to the front door. "Sorry about this. I'll call you."
As he shut the front door, he had one thought, Jennifer Sheppard.
Her green eyes. Smirk. Smile. Laugh. Sense of humor. Her excessive use of sarcasm. And most importantly, her red hair.
Gibbs went to his computer. After dusting off a thick layer of dust, he went to the NCIS website and logged in. He clicked on the personal link.
He scrolled through the list until he found her. Sheppard, Jennifer. A picture of her was at the top of the page. Gibbs grinned. She still looked the same.
He looked at her relationship status. Still single. His hopes rose.
Then they fell as he saw where she was stationed. Cairo, her mission: Classified.
"Arrg! Dammit Jen." He growled.
Gibbs felt frustration, anger and longing aimed at his old partner. And sadness for losing her.
