It was mid-afternoon when Orochimaru decided to go harass his prized student. He maneuvered his way through the long halls until he found who he was looking for. There stood Sasuke Uchiha with his back to him, too absorbed in his own thoughts to notice the sound of approaching footsteps.
Orochimaru smiled mischievously to himself as he walked closer to the young avenger. He stopped when he was right behind Sasuke and carefully wrapped his arms around his neck. "Good afternoon, dear Sasuke." He expected the boy to become angry and push him away, but he did no such thing.
Sasuke slowly turned around and pressed his face into Orochimaru's chest before bringing his hands up to grip his clothing. He didn't say a single word, and he didn't push him away; he simply stood there pressed against his chest.
Orochimaru had, had every intention of teasing the boy and getting on his last nerves, but he lost all desire to do so when Sasuke clung to him. Orochimaru became worried and he brought his hands up to Sasuke's shoulders. "Sasuke?"
The young Uchiha's body heaved once and he let out a quiet sob that was muffled by Orochimaru's tunic. His grip on Orochimaru's clothing tightened and his body heaved a few more times.
Orochimaru frowned upon hearing the muffled sobs of his usually stoic student. "What's wrong child?" He wrapped his arms around the shaking form of the Uchiha and held him tightly.
Sasuke still refused to speak, he just stood there in his master's comforting embrace. His body continued to heave and pour out sob upon sob until Orochimaru brought a hand up to cradle his head.
The serpentine man had his left arm wrapped around Sasuke's back to hold him close, and his right hand was placed upon his head. "I do not know what has upset you so severely, but I know that empty words meant to comfort will only make matters worse..." He laid his chin on Sasuke's head and nuzzled his face into the spiky black locks. "...So I'll just stand here and hold you until you feel better."
Sasuke nodded against Orochimaru's chest and sniffled a little. He took a couple of deep breaths to calm himself down, and let out one last sob. "Orochimaru?"
"Yes child?" He carefully pulled away to look at the tear-stained face that belonged to his student.
Sasuke slowly opened his mouth. "T-Thank...you." His words were barely audible and his cheeks were slightly flushed. "I feel better now..."
Orochimaru pursed his lips. "Might I ask as to why you were so upset child?" His hands were still holding Sasuke in a gentle embrace as he spoke.
Sasuke frowned and let out a sigh. "Today is...the anniversary of my clan's massacre..." He looked up at Orochimaru sadly. "I usually keep it together and let out my emotions through alternative measures, but..." Sasuke took a deep breath. "...when you came up behind me and embraced me, my walls came crashing down and all of the pain hit me instantaneously."
Orochimaru nodded slowly before carefully pulling Sasuke back into a hug. "Well, I'll tell you what; the next time you feel depressed, I want you to come straight to me. I will not hesitate to comfort you in any way that I can."
Sasuke let out a sigh of relief and slowly nodded his head against Orochimaru's chest. "Thank you..."
Orochimaru smiled as he pressed his face into Sasuke's hair. "Hmm, does this mean that you trust me, dear Sasuke?" He wrapped his arms around Sasuke in a protective manner.
Sasuke remained silent for a moment and brought his arms up to embrace Orochimaru. "Hn..." He looked up and smiled the smallest of smiles. "I trust you."
