Tonight the boys were discussing the topic of birthdays. Why are they, you ask? Well, Harry's birthday is tomorrow, the thirty-first of July, so there was a gigantic sleepover at the Burrow. Anyway, as the conversation continued, Neville became more and more subdued and more interested in the American herbology book in his hands. He actually got the American book as a birthday present from his friend, who is in America for summer vacation.
"OI! Neville!"
"Yes Ron?"
"When's your birthday?"
"Uh, July thirtieth."
"Bloody hell," Ron said, his eyes growing wide. "That's today isn't it?"
"Yeah," he said rubbing the back of his head.
"Why didn't you tell us?" asked Harry.
Neville shrugged. "Don't know."
"Then what's this letter you claimed was a 'letter from your grandmum'?" asked Seamus.
"It's a card I got with this book from my friend."
"Cool. Who is D.M?"
"Uh… no one?"
"Bollocks."
"That's not a very nice word, Ron," said Dean.
"Whatever. Anyway, Neville, are you going to answer the question sooner or later? I'm getting kinda hungry."
"You might not like my answer.
"Rubbish," sadi Harry waving his hand. "Your friend is probably nice like you. Um, do we know this friend?"
"Yeah." Neville was rubbing his hands together and looking around the room nervously. "You actually know him quite well."
Ron laughed nervously. "The only person we know who has the initials D.M is Malfoy. Please don't tell me it's Malfoy," Ron begged.
No answer. Their faces were a ghostly white.
"You're friends with Malfoy."
"The guy who bullies all, especially you and Hermione."
"You're friends with the enemy."
"I must have died and gone to Heaven. Yeah that's it. I must've died."
Neville rubbed the back of his head. "He's actually not that bad."
Four thuds echoed throughout the room. Something must've been wrong with the food they ate because tonight made no sense what so ever.
I've always liked the idea of a Neville/Draco bromance. Their friendship is so far-fetched its a great topic to write about. Tonight is Neville's birthday, so I wanted to try out this idea.
