Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter. Obviously.

A/N: Thanks to Deathly Hallows, this idea came to! Takes place after Snape calls Lily a Mudblood.

Forgiveness

Lily Evans was angry. So angry in fact that the color of her face seemed to match her hair. She was storming up the grounds of the castle. Someone was calling her name, probably James, but she ignored him. She was trying to stop the tears that threatened to spill from her eyes. She would not cry over him! There was no way she was going to cry because of James Potter.

She had been down by the giant oak tree near the lake, silently reading to herself. Out of no where, James Potter and Sirius Black swooped down on her. James was still under the notion that he was going to win her, which was never going to happen in a million years. She was annoyed by this point. Then Sirius persisted to bring up the incident in this exact spot just a few weeks previously. The incident where her best friend, Severus Snape, called her a Mudblood. It caused her great pain…she had been hurt and betrayed and remembering it wasn't one of her favorite things. That's when she stormed off. Away from James and Sirius and away from the spot…

Lily was so focused on being angry with James that she didn't pay attention to where she was walking. Upon entering the castle, she walked right into Severus Snape.

"Hey! Watch where you're…oh! Lily!" Snape's pale face was a light pink. It was hard to Lily to turn her anger on Snape. She glared at him.

"Sorry I ran into you…" She muttered before brushing past him.

"No, Lily, wait!"

"I don't want to talk to you, Severus."

"Lily, please!" Snape pleaded.

Lily stopped and turned towards him. The tears that had threatened were no spilling.

"Why, Severus? Why did you have to hurt me?" Lily cried.

He just stared at her. Silent. She stared into his black eyes. She wanted him to fell her pain.

"I don't know what you want me to say, Lily."

"Don't tell me what you think I want to hear! Tell me how you feel! Actually express some emotion for once!" Lily shouted, tears still streaming down her face. She watched as he contemplated what he was going to say. He looked slightly disgruntled. Snape took a deep breath before speaking.

"I can never apologize to you enough, Lily. It will always be in your memory…the thing I said. I was angry. Angry with Potter and Black. I wasn't in a right state of mind. I know that isn't an excuse…and I understand if you never forgive me…"

Lily stared. The tears stopped, her face stained from the ones already flowed.

"I don't know if I can forgive you…" Lily said softly. "I want too…but I still feel so hurt…"

"I know…I know you are. I can see it in your eyes…and I am sorry for that…truly sorry." Snape hung his head in shame.

Lily looked at him sympathetically. He truly was sorry. Lily wished she could just Obliviate the whole incident from hers and everyone else memory.

"I believe you…" Lily whispered. Snape looked up.

"You do?" Snape asked. Lily nodded.

She bit her lower lip and stepped forward with her arms out. Snape met her halfway and they embraced. Forgiveness felt better than she had imagined.
