The Lion Roars - Victory

Lucy sat on the window seat, hugging her knees to herself and humming softly.

"The Lion roars, the Lion roars. Victory is ours, the Lion roars" she sang softly.

"Lion roaring, bells are clanging, crowns are coming, victory" a strong voice continued the song. She turned around quickly.

"Oh, Edmund. It's you" she sighed in relief. He grinned and sat down next to her.

"Of course it's me" he agreed cheekily. She smiled sadly at him. He dropped his grin immediately.

"What's wrong, Lu?"

"Nothing. Only…only…"she faltered. Ed, understanding, dropped his eyes. Nothing was said for a few moments.

"Four crowns, four rulers, One King, the Lion roars" Edmund whispered the next line of the chorus. Lucy looked up.

"No. No more four rulers…" her voice broke, remembering the next line. "No more Kings coming, or Queens coming. I wonder if they still have peace? Peace without us?"

Ed reached over and grabbed her hand.

"I don't know, but it doesn't matter" he said. She looked at him in surprise.

"Doesn't matter? Of course it matters!"

"No, no, that's not what I meant. I mean that it doesn't matter because 'the Lion roars, victory is ours.'" he explained. "Lu, we aren't Aslan. He is the one Who gives victory, not us. Aren't you listening to the song? It doesn't say 'four rulers come, victory is ours.' It says 'the Lion roars.' We have to trust Aslan that He's doing the right thing." he squeezed her hand encouragingly.

"You're right." she replied.

"Of course I am!" he interjected cheekily. "I'm always right." Lucy laughed and punched him happily.

"The Lion roars. Victory is ours." she repeated softly after Edmund had left.

And at that moment, the golden sun sank beneath the horizon.
