This was what he'd been waiting for his entire life. Soon, he'd be the most powerful wizard ever.

There was an empty space in his chest, where his soul should have been. Every breath was a struggle, and he, once again, wondered whether he should do this.

But the pain didn't matter. It just didn't. He was doing this for the good of magic.

She would understand. She always did. She would know why he was doing what he was doing.

What if she didn't? a voice in his head nagged. He ignored the voice. If she didn't, then he would be damaged far more than he already was.

She was the only who stayed, when everyone else had left, and although he would never admit it, he was eternally grateful for that.

The hole in his chest went on expanding, and there was nothing he could do. He had pushed too far, and was facing the consequences.

His head was spinning, and all the memories flooded into his mind, but there just wasn't enough space.

He never thought that he would ever fall, and boy, he fell hard for her. He didn't want to be more than just two people sleeping together. But as time went on, he realised he did.

All those nights spent with countless girls, they were all haunting him. That's when he knew he had to do it.

He didn't mind the pain; he welcomed it. It made him feel strong, but only for a while. Deep down, he knew he wasn't brave, but it was nice to feel brave, even if it was for a moment.

He was tired of his façade and bravado, and he knew she could see right through it. Why pretend any longer?

She begged him to let it go, but he couldn't; he was far too deep in to ever get out again.

There absolutely nothing left inside of him anymore. The ache in his chest deepened with every breath, and he just couldn't stop himself. But it was alright.

He knew he would never be the same again, nor would he ever be truly okay. He was fine with that. It was for the greater good. Dumbledore would know what he had done, and would agree.

Tom Riddle always thought it would be all alright in the end. But the truth was, it wasn't the end. As he fell to the ground at Harry Potter's feet, he saw her one last time, and knew they would be together again.

And all was well.
