Unknown Feeling

"Take this," said Arthur, handing to Agravaine a small object. "It bears the royal seal. In my absence, responsibility for the Kingdom rests with you."

Agravaine couldn't believe this incredible luck. Not only is Arthur going to die in a few days' time, but he also gives him power! Things could not have happened better like this.

"What about your father?" He asked with an innocent face. He had to keep up appearances.

"Should he die, you are to assume the throne."

King Agravaine. Sire. Your Highness. They all sounded great to him as he toyed with the idea. Well, Morgana is going to get to the throne, but he'll do everything in order to make the people respect him.

"Arthur…" he said, giving him a disapproving look.

"You are the only person I trust, Uncle."

Yes, thanks for that. You fool.

"I beg you, for the sake of the Kingdom, there must be another way," said Agravaine, putting the royal seal into Arthur's hand. He was playing his role well, but it was still amazing how easy it is to deceive this boy.

"My mind is made up," said Arthur, giving the seal back. He looked deep into his uncle's eyes with his own blue ones. Agravaine stared at the ground, slightly puzzled. Arthur had his mother's eyes. Agravaine's beloved sister's. Those were Ygraine's eyes.

"I am just grateful you are here." Arthur squeezed his uncle's shoulder who managed to force a smile on his face. Arthur turned and left, leaving Agravaine alone with his thoughts. And his feelings.

He was looking at the seal while he was thinking. Arthur took after his mother so much. Same blue eyes, same good heart, same naivety. Ygraine gave her life for Arthur. Ygraine lived in Arthur.

I am just grateful you are here. These words echoed in his head while a feeling was bubbling in his chest. A strange, unknown feeling. It wasn't pleasant at all. What is this? Could it be…

Guilt?

No, that's impossible. He couldn't feel guilt for Arthur who had killed Ygraine. Arthur is going to die soon, and he's going to achieve his aim. He should be happy.

But then what is this painful feeling?

No. He shook himself, gripping firmly the royal seal. He can't feel like this, especially not now. Arthur is going to die, Morgana is going to become queen, and he is going to enjoy the life waiting for him. This has to be like this. There is no other way.

He hardened his cold heart again and left the room.
