"Today is the day, my Princess." The soft voice of her best friend and lady in waiting, Aubrey, sounded behind Chloe as Chloe stood in front of the taller blonde, allowing the woman to finishing lacing up the ballgown that she was having to wear. Not That she didn't enjoy ballgowns, she truly did. She loved the glitz and the glamour that came along with her lifestyle. She just wished that she was wearing it for a different reason, not the current one. The ginger princess let out a quiet sigh, looking her reflection in the eye.

"I have to ask you not to remind me quite yet." Though there was truth behind her words, she accompanied them with a quiet laugh. She wasn't a harsh person, and she was standing with her lady in waiting who knew her better than at times she knew herself, so she was not worried that Aubrey would take her words as spiteful. Chloe's eyes traveled down her ballgown, at least happy that her mother was allowing her to wear her favorite color. The ginger princess stood in a crystal blue gown, crystals decorating the bodice of it. The color brought out her eyes, and for that, she was thankful because her eyes were her best and most striking feature.

"My sincerest apologies, my lady." The blonde said, curtsying to the princess. Watching the stubborn blonde do so made the princess laugh. She rolled her eyes at Aubrey, shaking her head.

"Do I really have to point out that no one is around?" Chloe asked as Aubrey came out of her little 'I'm the lady in waiting' act she had just put on. The redhead's words caused the blonde to laugh at herself. And there she was, Chloe's best friend Aubrey Posen, not a lady in waiting Aubrey Posen.

"I can't imagine how odd I just looked at you. But, one can never be too careful." Chloe knew Aubrey was right, that it was unusual to have as much love for your lady in waiting as Chloe had for Aubrey. But, the thing was that the two had grown up together. Aubrey was around two years older than Chloe and had been there all the redhead's life. Chloe's mother, Queen Margaret, had thought it was a good idea to have Chloe brought up with Aubrey. That way, while Chloe had a lady in waiting she would also always have a best friend and a main confidant. Aubrey's mother had been Margaret's lady in waiting, and the two had hatched this plan when they had found Margaret to be pregnant. Their plan had worked out perfectly.

"I know that you are right," Chloe said, though she had never been one for rules. She had found them boring, and the fact that they had to hide their friendship idiotic. But, that was a thought for another time. Her mind was on other things. "So, what do you think that tonight is going to be like?" Chloe asked as she brought her hand to a small necklace. She had the necklace since she was young, the sterling silver snowflake barely leaving her neck. It had a tiny diamond in the middle of it, and it had a special meaning. Her father had always called Chloe his little snowflake, why she wasn't sure. But, she held the necklace dear to her.

"I think it is going to be wonderful! A ball! For you! To find your Prince Charming!" Aubrey said with mock enthusiasm. As Chloe gave Aubrey a raised eyebrow, the blonde finally laughed. "You didn't buy that either, did you?" Aubrey asked as the redhead just shook her head. But, she did have a small hint of a smile on her face, so Aubrey saw this as a win.

"I doubt I would find the one for me tonight, anyway. There is too much pressure to put on one night. Into one man." Chloe said as she looked out of her window, watching as carriage after carriage started to come into view of the castle that she called home.

"Well, at least it is a masquerade ball." Chloe's eyes fell on the blonde, intrigued as to what she was going to say next. "No guy will fall for your beauty before he falls for your personality. It is the best thing about you, after all.

"And here I was thinking I was the fairest in all the land," Chloe said sarcastically, and Aubrey laughed.

"That sounds like the wrong fairytale, my dear," Aubrey said with a wink as Chloe slid her mask on. The mask that she had chosen was a black setting, but it contained crystal music notes around her eyes that matched the color of her dress. She glanced at Aubrey, asking her what she thought with her eyes.

"You look perfect, Chlobug. I have a good feeling about tonight." Chloe had learned to believe Aubrey's feelings because surprisingly enough she was usually right.

"Thank you. Now, go get dressed!" Chloe exclaimed, walking over and playfully pushing Aubrey toward the door to her own room in the corridor. "We have a ball to get to!"
