Anyone can be a father...

'Dear Danny - the most amazing Dad I could ask for.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to get back for Father's Day this year - I only wish I could be with you on your special day, but hey, if I wasn't in India on placement, I wouldn't be following in your footsteps and becoming the best Vet around. You just make sure everyone, including Mum, pampers you to the maximum - you deserve it.

I know that was a cliche thing to say, but you honestly do. I don't tell you often enough just how much I love and care for you, and I certainly never remember to remind you just how much I appreciate you - words can't describe how much I appreciate you, and how much I thank you for being my Dad.

Anyone can be a Father, but it takes someone special to be a Dad and you are beyond special, and you will always be my Dad. You were there when I was a kid, putting a plaster on my knees when I fell and scraped them. You were there when I was a teenager, struggling with growing up and exams, you were always there to support me, help me and remind me to have fun. You were there when I first expressed an interest in being a vet, supporting me, giving me guidance and allowing me inside the animal hospital for what felt like the first time (even though it was probably the millionth haha), and allowing me to touch all the expensive equipment that I'd seen you and Mum look at for years. Then through Uni, you've been there, offering me help when I've needed it, listening to my complaints, and helping me, even when it meant an eighteen hour road trip for you and Mum, you didn't complain.

But most of all, I want to thank you for being you. For being the man who loves my Mum, who gave both me and her a new lease of life. You took me under your wing, you loved me, helped me and never saw me as Mum's excess baggage. You took my teenage angst in your stride and reminded me of who I was when I was tearing away. I want to thank you, for being there for me, whenever I've needed you.

I suppose what I'm trying to say, is that I love you, Dad.

All my love, forever,

Charlotte xxx'

Danny swiped at his eyes, trying to clear the clog of emotion in his throat. Charlotte's card had arrived that morning and Alice had presented it to him as soon as he'd awoken. As he read it out loud, his tears and emotion had seeped through and even Alice had shed tears, amazed by her daughter, and proud of her and her Husband.

"You have an amazing daughter." Danny whispered, placing the card on his bedside table.

"No Mr Trevanion," Alice croaked, placing her hand on the side of his face. Her eyes gazed into his, full of truth and emotion, "We have an amazing daughter - Happy Father's Day."
