"… Are you there?"

"I'm… here," Len whispered, eyeing his surroundings before he gazed into the large mirror that adorned his bedroom. It was a cold, stormy Saturday night, and his feet shivered under the frost that trapped his floor. Not worrying about his strained eyes, the boy stepped close to the inanimate piece of furniture and caught a glimpse of a rather concerned female figure.

"I'm gonna stay here for as long as I can," the teenager replied, sighing heavily as he soaked in his situation. He was supposed to be downstairs, dancing with the fake-faced nobles who filled his basement, but instead, he was locked in his dark bedroom, talking to a mirror. Kaito was going to have a fit later.

"Go to the ball," the mirror spoke, "… Don't risk getting in trouble cause of me." Len could hear the sound of guilt in his lover's tone; he put his hand to the glass, but he couldn't caress the face that was projected on it. "You always wished for a life of fame and respect. … Don't let your chance for everything slip away."

"I…" Len began, unable to look the mirror — rather, the girl in the mirror — in the eyes. He always wanted his name to be heard around the world, and he risked everything… his dignity, his pride, his very guardian angel…. He eventually gained the ambiguous popularity, and his presence was requested at numerous dances or lavish receptions. The only downfall, however, was the fact that the one he loved was trapped inside a pillar of glass, forced to hang on his wall for what seemed to be eternity…

"Go," the girl snapped, her forceful eyes shining through the crystal. "You have to stop looking at the past. You worked so hard for this… and if you just let it go now, I'll have nothing else to live for."

The door suddenly creaked open, revealing a fuming Miku with a scowl on her lips. "Len! Come down, now," she exclaimed, her hands on her hips — "Do you know how big this event is? The Duke has been expecting you for a good while now." She shifted her eyes when she noticed Len almost pressed to his mirror, his eyes intent on the invisible figure that lay behind it. "… Were you talking to that mirror again…?"

"N-no," Len stuttered, barely keeping the pace of his words in his mouth. "I was just putting the finishing touches on my outfit." Miku stared at him with a gaze of uncertainty, but it quickly molded into an expression of forfeit. "Fine," she muttered, turning to the door, "Come downstairs as soon as possible. We're all waiting."

The male waited until she walked out the door for him to finish his conversation. "I'm sorry," he breathed, rising from his previously still position and heading to the door. "… I'm so sorry."

Rin could only smile, hoping that Len could see her figure through the glass. "You were always forgiven."

There you have it. I'm horrible at one-shots; I'm sure that this doesn't even make that much sense, and I'm sure that there's another fanfiction with a simple story out there. I'm still not sure whether or not to make this a full story, anyway. Reviews could he helpful! :D
