It'd taken a full week of fighting, but I'd Finally convinced my parents my heading to America wouldn't kill me. It'd taken another two weeks to convince them that I didn't need Lin to accompany me.

That's how I found myself here standing in the airport Luella holding me in her arms trying to convince me one last time to stay. "Are you sure you want to go?"

Leaving home was a bittersweet feeling. On one hand, this was my chance to get out and make my mark on the world, on the other hand, the last time I'd left home I'd been kidnaped and held captive for a year while my brother tracked me down.

"All be alright," I smiled comfortingly.

"Gene I know you didn't want our help, but I've contacted a local historian from the town you'll be staying in," Martin said with guilt evident in his voice.

"It's alright I know your just trying to help." I smiled kindly at him before I continued, "Besides I just want to spread my wings a little." With the call of boarding, Luella released me, and Martin handed me a file I assumed contained the relevant information on the historian.

With that, I boarded a plane that would take me on the first leg of my journey to Smithton West Virginia a small town in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains.
