Hey everyone! First of all, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year (in some parts of the world, it's already New Year, but still XD). Second of all, this is my first NCIS fanfiction. I haven't been watching this show long, but I LOVE it! It is crack-tastic!
Story Quirks: It's short. It is also set at the end of the year that Kate died, 2005. Also, though it may seem like it, there isn't any Kibbs. I'm not that fluent in NCIS, so therefore, I can't write shipper fics yet. Also, Ziva is one of my favorite characters! NO ZIVA BASHING INTENDED.
Disclaimer: I do not own NCIS. It belongs to CBS and Donald Bellisario.
A/N (Aly's Note): Seeing as this is my first NCIS fanfiction, there may be some OOC-ness involved. Please do not hesitate to tell me if there is. Also, keep in mind that I have never spent a New Year's in DC, so I wouldn't really know how it is there. So I'm making something up XD. Reviews are loved and always replied to; constructive criticism is welcome.
December 31, 2005, NCIS Headquarters
New Year's Eve, 2005. The stars in the sky struggled to break free from their prison of streetlights. Some managed to succeed. A few sparkling stars shone in the dark sky, accompanying the lit top of the Capitol building. Some cars drove down the street, only to join their still partners who were parallel-parked at the sidewalk. One person drifted away from the party currently going on at NCIS headquarters and witnessed these events.
Leroy Jethro Gibbs stood on the third floor of the parking lot, right near the edge. His elbows rested on the divider dividing the safety of the parking lot from the outside air. A cup of bourbon rested in his hands.
The former Marine didn't feel ready to continue forward into the New Year. In fact, he wished he could rewind time and go back. He wanted to save Kate. Ziva was turning into a fine agent, but he still didn't feel... comfortable with her on the team. Sometimes, he expected to see Kate sitting there. He still sometimes expected to see Kate getting harassed by DiNozzo. He expected to see Kate taking crime scene photos and hunting down suspects.
Over the years, Gibbs—though his team didn't know it—came to accept his team as a family. Kate was—no, is—part of that family. It was always hard losing family members, and Kate was no exception. However, their new adopted sister, Ziva, was adjusting well into their NCIS family. But one new family member could never replace another. He still felt grief from Kelly and Shannon's death, and that was a while ago. He'd never forget any of them. Semper Fi. Always faithful.
Gibbs could hear bells ringing in the distance and faint cheers coming from inside NCIS. It was officially January 1, 2006. New Year's Day. He raised his glass in the air before taking a sip of his drink. Semper Fi, Kelly, Shannon, and Kate.
And Happy New Year.
So what do you think? Too OOC? Reviews are loved and always replied too; constructive criticism is welcome.
Happy New Year to all!,
Aly
