Chapter 1: The Silent One

Two five year old children stared back at one another. One was a boy and the other, a girl. The tension started to build up between them as they simply stared into each other's eyes until someone gratefully interrupted much to the boy's dislike.

"Itachi-san!" a member of the Uchiha clan cried out to the prodigy. Upon hearing his name, Itachi broke eye contact and turned toward the rude person. He trotted over to the other with his little legs, not shaking the feeling the other girl's black eyes leaving his retreating back. He looked up at the adult wondering why he was needed. Perhaps his father needed him home early today. "You must stay away from that girl, Itachi-san. She will bring bad luck to the whole clan if you get too close to her" the man whispered to the young boy.

Itachi's brows furrowed as he looked back to the girl who still stared back at him but with cold eyes this time. The cold stare almost made him have goose bumps all over. Itachi searched the mystery girl's eyes to find some kind of emotion beside one that was clearly noticeable to him; loneliness. This was the first time he ever saw the black haired girl up close. Itachi often saw her on the swing near school when he looked out the window during class. He knew she was staring back at him and it looked like she wanted to say something to him. But whenever school was let out, she was nowhere to be found. He looked back at the adult, "why would she bring bad luck? She's just a harmless little girl" Itachi inquired.

The other Uchiha shook his head at the younger one. "I guess you haven't heard about her. That's odd considering she has been here since she was a baby. But remember Itachi-san, snakes are a symbol for bad luck. In fact her name is—"

"Hebi!" another called out, interrupting what the other Uchiha was about to say. But it mattered not since it was the hokage who called out. Itachi looked around but saw no slithering animal but then it clicked in his mind. He wasn't called a genius of his generation for nothing.

The said girl finally tore her ice cold gaze away from the Uchiha to the hokage who waved at her. "Come Hebi, there's someone I want you to meet" the old man stated. She nodded and reached into her satchel, taking out a notepad and pen and wrote something down. She ripped the paper out, folded it and calmly walked over to the two by standing Uchiha. The adult bid his good byes, being afraid of being too close to the little girl.

She held out the folded paper to him and walked off to the waiting hokage. He stared at the piece of paper questionably. He figured she was mute which was why she simply stared at him instead of saying anything. Finally he unfolded it to reveal a message from the girl. Emotion flooded to the young eyes as he finished reading the short message passed to him. Itachi looked up to gaze at the retreating back of the girl, Hebi. His arms fell limp at his side as he clutched the paper. The written message played through his mind over and over again.

'I hate you'
