As she crooned the simple and timeworn lullaby to her two small children, it becomes a plea for peace. Just as her mother once sang it to her, her voice an instrument through which the haunting lullaby to flow though, and her mother before that, she repeats the first part over and over again; each time a little different until the young children fall into the calm and secure land of sleep.
Then, and only then, does she sing the second part, but only once. This is the mother's lullaby, the plea for peace for her young children in a land of war.

Author's Note: Obviously the characters and setting are not mine. If they were, why on earth would I be here writing fanfiction instead of novels?
So what'd you think? PLEASE let me know! Anything helps an aspiring reader, even if all you say is that you read it. :) Thanks!
Yikes! I almost forgot the Rohirric translations!
The Song of a Mother
Rest my child/Dream of a land of peace/Dream of joy and laughter that cannot be put out/Lay down your heavy head and sleep/Dream of better times to come/
May the love of a mother/Protect and innocent mind/From the horrors of war/May the prayers of mothers/Now and long past/Bring better times for now and forever/Rest my child/Rest in the love of a mother.
