Kate squeezed her eyes shut as the white light flashed and blinded them, as tears were rushing down her cheeks all she could think of in that moment was of him. She focused on his face and features, his short cropped hair and warm brown eyes. Maybe, she thought to herself, maybe if I think of him now I'll never forget him, it was a childish though but that was all she could do in the last moments. After a few seconds everything went black.
Kate opened her eyes and looked up tall palm trees were swaying slightly and the warm sun was beating down on her. She rubbed her eyes again and looked around. This place looked familiar but she couldn't quite put her finger on it, it was as if she had been here in another life. For a few minutes she tried hard to think back to before everything had blacked out but she couldn't, it felt as if her memories had stopped there. Frustrated she stood up and walked at a quick pace, her gut was telling her she was looking for something, but she couldn't quite place what that was. Kate kept scanning the trees looking for any signs but nothing came to her.
After a while of walking she found an opening in the dense jungle it was a circular place with no trees just a few logs and as if on habit she sat down. All of a sudden a strong set of emotions came rushing to her almost at once her eyes were filled with tears. Shaking her head she wiped her tears and went on. There had to be a reason why she felt so overwhelmed with emotion. Her lips started to tingle and she touched them. "What is this place?" she whispered to herself.
It seems like she had been walking for hours when she reached a sandy serene beach, and then she saw him. A fairly well built man was sitting facing the sea. Her heart started thumping faster and faster and it was as if a wave of memories came back to her, all the times they had shared together simply flooded in. Counting to five, getting stuck in a net, guava seeds, getting off the island, getting engaged and finally the decision to erase their future.
No longer patient Kate screamed his name "JACK!" The man turned around slowly, at first there was no recognition, no familiar sparkle in his eyes. Kate stopped walking her fears paralyzing her and then after a moment his familiar warm smile grew spread across his handsome face. Jack quickly stood up at once.
"Kate!" She ran towards him and immediately wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her face on his shoulder. Tears welled up in Jack's eyes as he remembered her distinctive beautiful scent.
"You remembered" Kate managed to choke out.
"How could I ever forget you?" He said his voice cracking. For a moment they just looked at each other taking each other in. Jack let out a relieved laugh and Kate smiled through her tears.
