Wasted
Prompt: Wasted- Carrie Underwood
Standing at the back door,
She tried to make it fast.
One tear hit the hardwood and it fell like broken glass.
She said, "Sometimes love slips away,
And you just can't get it back.
Let's face it."
Emily stood at the front door of the house she shared with Aaron. Her bags were all packed and in the car. She couldn't bare to face Aaron, as a tear fell from her eye. She was leaving Aaron and she couldn't look at him.
He had been drinking a lot more lately and she didn't think he'd be getting better anytime soon. He didn't want any help any of the times she offered. She was done trying to save their relationship.
"Aaron, I'm leaving. Our love is gone and we can't get it back. It will never be the same." She said, grabbing the doorknob.
For one split second,
She almost turned around.
But that would be like pouring raindrops back into a cloud.
She took another step and said,
"I see the way out.
And I'm gonna take it."
Emily, I love you."
Emily almost turned around and forgot about leaving when Aaron said that. But she knew they would always have problems. She would be wrong to turn around.
She began to walk out of the door, but stopped and said, "I have to take the only way out." And with that, she was gone.
Another glass of whiskey,
But it still don't kill the pain.
So he stumbles to the sink and pours it down the drain.
He said, "It's time to be a man and stop living for yesterday.
I gotta face it."
Aaron sat in the living room and poured himself a glass of whiskey. He kept staring at the door, hoping Emily would come walking back through it.
He sat drinking for his glass, but he soon realized that the alcohol wasn't helping with the pain he was feeling at the moment.
He stood up and stumbled his way into the kitchen. He poured the bottle and the glass of whiskey down the drain. He went to get every bottle of liquor that he had in the house. He poured out all of the alcohol and dumped the bottles in the garbage.
I don't wanna spend my life jaded,
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I let all these years go by, wasted.
I don't wanna keep on wishing,
Missing the still of the morning,
The color of the night.
I ain't spending no more time wasted.
Aaron finally decided he wanted to stop drinking. His life had been falling apart. Emily left and Jessica took Jack from him. He made sure there wasn't any alcohol in the house. He was going to get clean and get himself back to normal. He wouldn't let himself go down this painful road again.
She kept driving along,
Until the sun and the moon were floating side by side.
He looked in the mirror and his eyes were clear for the first time in a while.
Emily continued to drive on until she came to a hotel far from he home. She would be finding a permanent place to stay the next day.
Aaron woke up the next morning. He took a shower and looked in the mirror. He felt clearer than ever after getting rid of all of the alcohol he used to be so attached to. He realized that his eyes are clearer than ever and not bloodshot. He noticed it had been a really long while since his eyes have been that clear.
I don't wanna spend my life jaded,
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I let all these years go by, wasted.
I don't wanna keep on wishing,
Missing the still of the morning,
The color of the night.
I ain't spending no more time wasted.
