11:57pm - ZPD HQ
Nick and Judy are sitting in the bullpen, as usual, both on the same chair (Many of the ZPD's facilities weren't designed with mammals of their size in mind). Nick and Judy were talking, Judy seemed less than thrilled at the prospect of another nightshift.
"Ugh, I hate the night shift, either its completely dead or your run completely off your paws."
Nick just rolled his eyes at the comment
"Well, you jinxed it now."
Everyone stood to attention as Chief Bogo entered the Bullpen. He began to address the officers.
"Sit down"
Everyone but Judy and Nick did (otherwise they wouldn't be able to see over the top of the desk).
"Hopps, Wilde, I want you two on a stake-out on 4th Avenue, your looking for a Ram who's a known drug dealer in the area."
Nick gave Judy a 'I-told-you-so' look.
"Be-autiful, looks like it's gonna be a dead night.".
Bogo didn't take kindly to Nick's comment and just scowled as he dismissed them.
"Your both dismissed."
4:55am – 4th Avenue
Judy is alone in an unmarked police car on a deserted road, the only activity is Nick walking down the street with soda and snacks in paw. Judy clicked open the car door to let him in. As he sat down in the passenger's seat he handed her a can of carrot flavored soda.
"Here, I got you that weird soda you like."
The can was orange with a large picture of a Bunny smiling holding a carrot.
"Thanks. By the way I checked your stake-out bag. Why is it 95% dried blueberries?"
Nick just shrugged.
"I get snacky. So, anything happen while I was out?"
Judy sighed.
"Nothing... a whole lot of nothing."
Nick turned on the car radio, thinking of brightening the mood, the radio blared into life midway through a news announcement.
"…astronomers have reported a strange uptick in solar flare activity, this coupled with the increase in meteor showers makes it a very interesting week for scientists all round…"
Judy flicked the radio off. Nick could tell she was fed up at this point, Judy just didn't have it her to hide her feelings.
"Something on your mind?"
Judy just sighed
"We've been here five hours, ready to call it quits?"
Nick responded
"I am if you are."
Just as Judy was about to radio-in, I giant flash in the sky caught her and Nick's attention. It was a star going supernova, the remnants of its outer shell could be seen filling up the night sky in a display of color.
Nick was the first to talk after both of them just stared at the brilliant display.
"Well, there's something you don't see every day."
Judy was still somewhat spellbound.
"That's beautiful."
Nick chimed in.
"That's a supernova… a star exploding."
Judy turned to Nick, somewhat surprised at his astronomy knowledge. Nick caught on pretty quick.
"Hey, you're not the only one in the precinct who watches Horizon"
Judy gave Nick a look that could only be described as a sarcastic 'Yeah right.', Nick realized she didn't believe him and came clean.
"Okay I lied, I picked it up from Star Trek: Voyager."
Judy smiled, that was more like the Nick she knew.
"That's more believable."
Judy tried to radio-in again, but as soon as she turned on her personal radio it was completely swamped with the voices of other officers, from the indistinct chatter Nick and Judy realized that the ZPD was getting swamped with calls from concerned residents about the supernova. Judy worked her radio trying to find a clean channel.
"This is Officer Hopps, were calling it in on the 4th Avenue stake-out. Nothing to report."
The voice of a stressed out Clawhauser could be heard on the other end of the radio
"Err… Ten Four."
Nick grimaced at the thought of the stress HQ was currently under. Judy started the engine of the car and began the drive back to HQ.
Chapter 2 is coming soon. I'm aiming for around 4 or 5 chapters in total.
