Yup, a Supernatural story for Christmas. Setting is in the present timeline.

The evening was not going well for the Winchester brothers. They were driving through scenic Bum Fuck Nowhere, way too far from anything that could be considered a rest stop (unless you included the side of the road in that category). The Impala's heat was obstinately stuck on Way Too Friggin' Cold and the only clear radio station was only playing Christmas music. Rather than sit in silence and admit defeat, Dean stubbornly kept it on, ridiculing as he saw fit in order to let it know how much it offended him.

I really can't stay
(but baby it's cold outside)
I've got to go away
(but baby it's cold outside)
This evening has been
(been hoping that you'd drop in)
So very nice

"'Here take this roofie…,'" Dean mockingly sang along, "Why do people think this is a romantic Christmas song? It's about friggin' date rape!"

"People don't really think about it, I guess," Sam shrugged, "They just think about what it's 'supposed' to be. A guy and a girl in a picturesque setting and they assume it ends well. Or I guess maybe there's a certain level of 'wrong' that people think it's okay to write off because 'that's how life is'. Certain bad tenancies are put in an okay light by society because they're impulses people refuse to fight. I don't know."

The neighbors might faint
(baby, it's bad out there)
say what's in this drink
(no cabs to be had out there)
I wish I knew how
(your eyes are like starlight now)
to break this spell

"That's a comforting thought. Somebody's rights don't matter because it's not enjoyable for anybody else to acknowledge them. People can just become casualties of somebody else's impulses and it doesn't even matter."

The bizarre parallel hung over them, further sobering the already irritated situation.

The song ended, bringing a new one in its place.

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,

Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen-

"That's wrong," Sam announced.

"What?"

"The lyric, it's wrong. It's Donder and Blitzen. 'Thunder and Lightning' in German."

"So what? You think I care?"

"No, it's just-It was written one way, right? A couple hundred years ago, this dude Clemet Moore sat down and decided that the story was going to go one particular way, with these particular details. Then, the story starts coming into itself; being read and sang and whatever and people were doing it differently. It was too much trouble to pronounce the 'd' or whatever. And now that particular detail is gone. Now everybody think his name's Donner and because of that it actually is; the story is changed and the only reason it is because people just did it differently."

"What are you trying to say, man?"

"I don't know, but I needed to say it."

A very merry Christmas,

And a happy New Year,
let's hope it's a good one,

Without any fear.
