Fateful Meeting

Gensokyo was not the sort of normal place you would ordinarily find in Japan. It was old-fashioned...and while that might be normal in our world, what isn't is the presence of magic. It encompasses living beings...and so we get flying shrine maidens and magicians, ghosts, poltergeists, and youkai. Oh, and of course...incidents.

Of course, with so much magic around...science was rarely talked about.

Science was one thing Gensokyo's residents didn't understand. It did things they could, but it also...explained. It could explain so many natural things. It was an intelligent way of reasoning...but it could not explain magic. It was fantasy, and science was the exact opposite: logic.

Science couldn't understand magic, and magic couldn't understand science. You were either one or the other. But no one thought someone could be both.

The Outside World.

A young student with long, purple hair at a university rushes to get to class on time. Carrying some thick books, she rushes through the door.

"...This is the third time you were late, Miss Asakura. Sit down." the teacher tells her.

Rikako Asakura nods in acknowledgement and sits down on her own seat. Taking one of her notebooks, she writes down notes for her upcoming test soon. And yet...she begins to remember.

'This is where I belong...I was meant to study and to become successful. Not to learn magic...argh, how I wish I never went to Gensokyo! They keep rejecting my ideas...what a waste of time.'

"Miss Asakura. Are you listening?"

She snaps out of it. "Um...yes!"

If there was one thing she decided on...it was never to go back.

Gensokyo

A certain college student was wondering around a forest lost for several hours.

'What have I gotten myself into?!'

Renko started to sweat heavily as she was unable to locate Maribel to go back home.

'I shouldn't have separated from Maribel. I just want to go home now.'

'Class is getting boring again,' Rikako thought as she moved over to her locker.

If only there was something nice to do for a change...

Amd then she noticed the device sitting inside. It was something she had created...to get out of there. Maybe...she could get back in.

'Hmm...maybe I can check what's happening there for a while. Not like I'm going to love it, but whatever.'

She checked around to see nobody around her, then activated the device, bringing her back to Gensokyo. Inside...some forest.

"Hello? Anyone there?" she yelled.

Renko heard a voice sounding like it belongs to a female and she shouted back.

"Hello? Who's there?"

Rikako heard a voice as well, and shouted to get her attention.

Rikako: "Who are you?"

Renko: "I'm Renko Usami and you are?"

Renko looked around where she was to try and find where the source of the voice is.

Renko Usami? That's new, she thought. Maybe a youkai of sorts...gotta be careful.

Rikako :"I'm...a youkai!"

Renko: "AAAA! S-stay away from me!"

Renko started to move away from her position and tries to hide.

Rikako: "Don't worry! I don't eat humans!"

Rikako moved towards where the source came from, moving closer to Renko.

Renko: "A-are you sure? You're not trying to lie to me just to eat are you?"

Rikako: "N-no! I promise, I'm a friendly youkai!"

Renko: "Last time a youkai told me that Maribel got severally injured and we were chased by it!"

Maribel...?

Rikako decided to test this Renko person. To see if she was someone the scientist knew. Or at least was familiar with Gensokyo.

Rikako: "Don't worry! I'm a rain youkai!"

Renko:"I've never heard of a rain youkai before are you trying to lie to me?!"

Rikako now knew two things. One, this Renko person seemed to have some knowledge of Gensokyo. Two, she's a human. Only humans get scared of youkai like that. It was time for her to tell the truth.

Rikako: "Alright, alright. I'm not a youkai. I'm a human. Now tell me where you are!"

Renko: "First you tell me you are a youkai then you tell me you are a rain youkai which doesn't exist and now you tell me you're a human! How do I know you aren't out to eat?!"

Rikako: "I pretended to be a youkai so I would know if you were a human! And now I know that! So...tell me where you are, and I'll find you!"

Renko: "I don't know where I am but maybe you could use my voice to locate me?"

Rikako: "Alright then, stay where you are!"

She began to follow Renko's voice.

Rikako: "Um...how did you get here anyway?"

Renko: "I was with my friend Maribel who brought me here. After a while of walking I separated from her by accident and now I'm lost."

Rikako:"Wait...this 'Maribel' brought you here? So you're originally from the Outside World?"

Renko: "Yup she brought us here. And I guess we are from the outside world?"

She didn't answer Renko's question.

Rikako: "...Hold on, I think I'm getting closer to you! Can you try to find me as well?"

Renko:"Okay."

She looks around and spots a purple haired female approaching her.

Renko: "I think I see you."

She approaches the purple haired female. Rikako turns around to see a shorter girl with brown hair and a hat.

Rikako: "Yeah, me too. Are you...Renko?"

Renko: "That is me and you are?"

Rikako: "...My name isn't important. I'm just someone mysterious...someone you shouldn't remember."

Renko: "Then how do you want me to refer to you as miss...?"

She suddenly held Renko's arm.

Rikako: "...No time to do that. We have to get you out of here. The youkai here eat humans..."

Renko: "Ok, so how will we get out of here?"

Rikako: "Um...here's the thing. I don't know where's the exit...so we're going to run in a random direction and hope we get out."

Renko: "Then let's get going."

Renko holds Rikako's hand and started to run in a random direction.

Rikako:"Alright, we're making progress-"

She suddenly hears noises from the surrounding trees.

Rikako: "...I think the youkai are after us now..."

Renko started to run faster, as a result she started to drag Rikako.

Rikako: "H-Hey! Slow down, Renko!"

She slows down just a little bit so that Rikako could catch up with her.

Renko: "You're not very good at running are you?"

Rikako: "I'm a scientist, what do you-"

She suddenly covers her mouth with her hand, afraid to reveal her secret to this...stranger.

Renko: "Huh? What's wrong with telling me that you are a scientist? It's not that big of a deal is it?"

Renko looks at Rikako with a confused expression.

Rikako: "Forget I said that! Just keep running!" Of course it's a big deal here, she thought.

As both of the girls ran, Renko tripped over a small rock and as a result Rikako fell down with her. However as Renko fell down her head hit against a rock and she passed out. Rikako stood up and looked at the unconscious Renko.

Rikako:"Renko? RENKO! Oh god, I have to take you back to the other world..."

She picked her up and activated her device, bringing her back to the outside world. Once there, she went straight to her own house, where she let Renko rest on her bed.

Rikako: "...Please wake up..."
