A Mother's Farewell

A/N: This takes place after Wilder and Bullhorn save Cancer's life and sort of defect and before the Cybertronians final battle against the Destrons.

"Hello, Cancer."

Cancer turned and saw Mega standing behind him. "Lady Mega," he gasped. "I didn't expect to see you again."

Mega smiled at him. "So I hear you've defected."

"Yes, ma'am," Cancer lowered his head then looked up at her. "I'm sorry if I hurt you," he apologized.

"Don't apologize," she told him. "I am sad that you chose to leave us but if this is where you really want to be then you have our blessing."

"Really?" Cancer perked up a little when she nodded. "I miss you, Lord Giga, and all the others but I just couldn't justify some of the things that we did."

"I can't justify them either," she said. "Giga and I are growing weary of the Destron ways. We didn't mind it so much when we were just trying to take over the world but killing all the humans? We can't stand for that anymore, especially since we're human as well."

"Oh," Cancer smiled hesitantly then said, "I really am sorry about leaving you guys. You're the family I never had."

"And you're the son we never had," she said. "As are Wilder, Bullhorn, Hydra, and Buster. Hydra and Buster I fear have succumbed completely to BlackZarak and his evil ways." She looked very sad, tears welling up in her eyes but she blinked them away.

"Wilder and Bullhorn are fine too," he told her. "Wilder keeps insisting that 'he's not really defecting' but we don't believe him," he confided, not wanting to think about Hydra and Buster, his 'big stepbrothers'.

Mega managed a weak smile and said, "I'm sure you don't. I wouldn't believe him either." Silence fell between them then Mega said briskly, "I need to go."

"Are you sure you don't want to defect?" Cancer asked.

"I might," she said. "I make no promises. But I cannot abandon Hydra and Buster no matter what they think of us humans. The Cybertronians will keep you safe and I have no doubt that Wilder and Bullhorn will keep an eye on you as well." She bent down and kissed Cancer on the forehead one last time then left, not knowing that the next day she and Giga would be dead and that Cancer, Wilder, and Bullhorn would stick together for the rest of their lives.
