Another one-shot~

I know I should be updating my other stories instead of writing oneshots like this, but I was browsing through the EdAl section and I got inspired and I couldn't help it X3

EdxAl if you like that stuff, just brotherly stuff if you don't~ :3

Ed snuggled further into his lap, half-asleep and hazy to the real world as he asked what Al considered to be the dumbest question in the world. "Hey, Al..."

"Mm?"

"Can... Can we stay like this?"

"Mm... Depends what you mean by 'this', nii-san." Al opened his eyes a fraction, welcoming the sight of his beloved hometown, the feel of damp morning grass beneath him and the flowing ridges of tree bark leaning against his back. Al simply couldn't describe how good it felt to finally be back in his body.

"Well... 'This', really. With the grass and Resembool and you."

Al chuckled, and reached hand into Ed's tangled mass of golden locks (which he'd successfully persuaded him to let down) and played with them, his mind wandering to previous conversations they'd had as kids under this very tree. "Sure. As long as you want." Al paused, considering. "Well, at least until Winry fetches us to try another of her apple pies."

Ed smiled, tracing the stitches of Al's trouser leg with his flesh hand. "Hm... That sounds pretty close to heaven to me. Looks like I might have to rethink this whole 'atheism' thing."

Al laughed, the sweet sound ringing like chimes over the empty hill and rolling down into the town below. Ed relished in it. Al's laugh never quite sounded like that when he was in the armour. "I'm with you on that one."

Ed didn't reply; he merely sighed contentedly and rolled over to lie on his back, his flesh leg pulled up and his automail leg lying flat next to Al's hand. He slowly reached his right hand upward towards the sea of blue, squinting at the refractions of light bouncing off the metal, dancing in the country air.

"Nii-san, look," Al whispered, an expression of awe on his face. "It's a rainbow."

Ed smiled. His automail had been damp from the morning dew and the sunlight had created a dozen or more rainbows sprouting out of his hand. He giggled - not that he would ever admit it - and whispered, "Maybe Winry hid some gold in my automail and forgot to tell me about it."

"I'll make sure to ask her about it later," Al chuckled, reaching forward and grasping the metal hand in his own.

The two boys - for that was what they were, in all honesty - smiled, and, not for the first time in their lives, shared one true wish - that they could stay that way forever, with each other and no one else, until the world crashed down around them. They both knew that even then they'd probably still be sitting - or in Ed's case, lying - under their favourite oak tree, basking in their fragile illuminations of reality until the end of time.

Because that was what they always did, and it gave them hope.

Originally, the last line was gonna be really angsty, but then I realised all my nice stories always end up angsty, and anyway I'd already used the line I had in mind before XD So no angst in this one :3

I like this one~ Even though it has no plotline what. So. Ever. XD

Review~? X3
